Northwestern Buffalo are scientifically classified and commonly known to hunters as the Western, or West African Buffalo.
These Buffalo are endemic to the northern savannah regions. In the southern forested areas of Cameroon, you will find the Forest buffalo , also known as the Dwarf Buffalo, which are distinguished by horn shape, color and size.
Northwestern Buffalo are smaller than the well-known Cape Buffalo, but many experienced big game hunters often consider the Northwestern Buffalo to be more aggressive and unpredictable than Cape Buffalo. Bottom line, this Buffalo hunt is going to be action packed exceptionally dangerous.
Buffalo shot placement when hunting in Cameroon for Northwestern Buffalo is going to be no different to on a Cape Buffalo hunt. Make the first shot count.
Roan antelope, with their pale reddish-brown fur and black and white masked faces are one of Africa’s favorite plains game hunts. Both male and female Roan have horns enabling Roan to defend themselves from predators patrolling the African landscapes.
In Africa, there are six recognized sub-species of Roan, and the Western Roan is found is found in this Northern Savannah region of Cameroon in the tall grass and open woodland areas.
Roan hunts often take place in the late afternoon as Roan tend to drink at that time of day, so you and our professional hunter will be sure to check along the river banks and other water sources on the concession.
Roan are listed and classified by Cites as a species of antelope of “least concern”.
On this African hunt taking place in one of the most challenging game hunting environments, you will be hunting with “some of the best of the best.” These guys are on top of their game.
The recommended season to go on this hunting safari are the months from beginning December to end April.
This concession, besides Roan and Buffalo hunting is popular for hunting a variety of Duiker species such as Red Flanked, Western Bush, along with the sought after Nigerian Bohor Reedbuck and Sing-Sing Waterbuck.
The area of Kourouk is also famous for Lord Derby Eland hunts which can be added to this safari at a trophy price of US$ 7900. Nigerian Bohor Reedbuck at US$ 1200 and Sing-Sing Waterbuck for US$ 1850 are also sought after in Cameroon.
The hunting concession is more than 350 000 acres. The Faro River forms the Eastern and Western boundary which in places is more than three hundred yards wide, depending of course on the season. The Faro River is filled with old and grumpy Bull Hippos, making Hippo hunts another favourite in the savannah area of Cameroon.
If you want to consider hunting a unique species on this hunting safari, add a Central African Rock Python for a trophy for US$ 2750. Few hunters can brag of hunting this trophy anywhere is Africa.
Nocturnal hunts are also available to hunters wanting to experience a night safari, which includes Spotted Hyena Hunting (US$ 1480 trophy fee), and Porcupine trophy fee of US$ 450 and Civet Cats US$ 725. Hyena hunts, especially for Spotted Hyena are becoming extremely popular as this species of Hyena is listed as least concern by CITES and is fully exportable to the US and other countries. The U.S. does not allow for the importation of Brown Hyena hunting trophies.
This is a fantastic opportunity to also add a Lord Derby Eland hunt. These Eland are magnificent in every respect and a trophy fee for the Lord Eland will cost US$ 7 900.
When hunting in Cameroon, this safari will give you a chance to hunt exceptional trophies for additional unique and in some cases endemic species. If you going to hunt this Savannah area in Cameroon, it is highly recommended to consider hunting the below trophies:
This African hunt in Cameroon is an incredible opportunity and your chance to hunt not only trophy Roan and Northwestern Buffalo, but to mix it up with an array of night hunts, endemic antelope, and a Hippo hunt in the Faro River.
If freshwater fishing is a favourite activity, the Faro River is packed with Tigerfish and giant catfish. Low light / evening fishing safaris are aimed at Nile Perch which makes excellent eating. Your private chef of this African safari will be delighted to prepare this delicacy.
Your inbound flight into Cameroon will see you flying to the city of Doula where you will be met by your outfitter and transferred to your hotel.
The following morning, a charter flight will take you to Ngaoundere from where you will be transferred by road to the hunting area of Kourouk. This road transfer will be in a 4 x 4 vehicle and will take approximately 4 hours.
When booking the hunting safari, check flights with the travel agent and/or African outfitter as they scheduled for Monday and Fridays.
It is advisable to land in Douala two days before commencement of the safari.
The hunting lodge, in typical West African Bungalow style, while situated in such a remote area is still and 3 to 4 star. The lodge has all the modern amenities that can be expected when hunting with a Craig Boddington endorsed outfitter.
Rooms are spacious with on-suite bathrooms and the views from the lodge are incredible. Your private chef will cater the most delicious meals in an African theme.
When hunting in Cameroon and such incredible and endemic species are on offer, the reality is that a safari of this quality costs a substantial amount. When budgeting and you add the cost of the safari, plus charter flights, ground transfers, trophy fee on the Western Roan, Dip and Pack, the provisional costs would be +- US$ 52000, which would be similar to an Elephant hunting safari for big tuskers of 70 pounds plus in Namibia.
For US$ 50 000, you could go Cape Buffalo hunting in South Africa and shoot 5 x bulls. But this is not a once off elephant hunt, or a fenced Cape Buffalo hunt in SA. This is some of the best free-range hunting in Africa.
This is an incredible opportunity to go hunting for species not available anywhere else in Africa. Hunting in Cameroon is also expensive due to the short game hunting season, location, need for domestic charter flights and the costs of running a remote camp in a country with limited infrastructure.
We have said it before, do not be the richest man in the graveyard, bank the memories and Book the Hunt. This hunt for the handful of unique big game hunters who want to take their career to the “next level.”
Please note that terms, conditions and price are subject to change without notice and rates at the time of the hunt will apply
