The Eastern Cape’s varied landscapes support a rich ecosystem, making it a popular destination for sustainable plains game hunting.
More information about Management Hunts:
Management/Culling hunts are important and beneficial as they assist with controlling overpopulated wildlife species, preventing habitat degradation and ensuring a balanced ecosystem. This helps maintain biodiversity and supports the overall health of the environment. Additionally, culling hunts generate revenue for conservation programs, enabling reinvestment into wildlife protection and habitat management. Ultimately, management hunts contribute to long-term ecological sustainability.
International travelers can commence this hunting adventure by arriving in either Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, or Cape Town International (CPT). From either entry points into South Africa, you will need to take a domestic flight of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, arriving in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). For these domestic flights we would recommend flying with Air-Link, their flights are on time and affordable. Return domestic flights will cost on average US$ 200, depending on the season.
Upon arrival in Port Elizabeth, you will be met by your outfitter, Kevin or a member of the team. A scenic 2-hour drive to the hunting lodge camp follows, with breathtaking views of the Eastern Cape’s diverse landscapes.
The lodge has three beautifully decorated twin rooms, each with its own private bathroom. The shared spaces are warm and inviting a comfy living room with a fireplace that’s perfect for cool evenings, soft couches you can sink into, and a dining area where hearty, home-cooked meals are served. After a long day, everyone gathers around a big outdoor firepit, swapping stories and laughs under the stars. And if you just want to relax, there’s even a decked pool right next to the lodge where you can unwind and soak up the peaceful vibes.
Non-hunters? No problem—you’re more than welcome! There’s plenty to enjoy, whether you want to relax and take in the stunning surroundings or join some of the local excursions designed just for you. Whatever you choose, you’ll find there’s more than enough to make your trip unforgettable.
The best time to hunt in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, is during the cooler months, from May to September. This period coincides with the winter season, when temperatures are milder, making it more comfortable for both hunters and animals. The vegetation is also less dense, improving visibility for stalking and tracking. For plains game hunts, this is considered the optimal season, as animals are more active and easier to spot.
