The Tanzania Hunting Concession: The Selous Reserve

Hunt Tanzania in the world famous Selous Reserve for Cape Buffalo, famously known as the “Black Death” and for very good reason. The Cape Buffalo is one of Africa’s most sought-after and iconic dangerous game trophies and when it comes to Cape Buffalo shot placement you better be on top of your game. During a Cape Buffalo hunt, this quarry has a knack of being able to “eat lead”. A wounded Buffalo would like nothing more than to circle, and gouge you to death. Time and again we bear witness to this dangerous game hunting scenario, hence when going Buffalo hunting, there is no such thing as “too much gun”.

This Cape Buffalo hunt in Tanzania includes hunting a trophy Impala, a highly sought after plains game antelope. Add to this, is the option for the hunter to add on additional  plains game antelope under this license which include : Duiker, Zebra, Warthog and the extremely popular and unique Niassa Wildebeest. A second trophy Impala can also be added.

Tanzania is considered by many hunters as the ultimate game hunting destination, not only due the variety of plains and dangerous game on offer, but the historic safari hunting traditions which are followed by Tanzanian outfitters.

A Tanzania hunting safari is often referred to as the “Sportsman’s Paradise” due to the vast wilderness areas, boasting a variety of different eco-system which range from Masai Steppe in the Northeast, to Miombo forests and the Southwest.

Nowhere in any other African country can the hunter enjoy the basic pleasures of camp life and sport hunting under such favorable conditions.

The Selous Reserve also has a reputation of producing world class dangerous game trophies including four of the African big 5 (excluding Rhino) along with adrenaline filled Hippo hunts. Crocodiles in Tanzania are huge and are regularly hunted over fifteen feet.

The Selous Reserve Cape Buffalo Hunt

This “Jewel of Africa” boasts herds of Cape  Buffalo spread in the hundreds over the horizon. On this dangerous game hunting safari, you will be spoilt with a variety of choice and it would be advisable to show some restraint, there are plenty of Buffalo. In fact, Tanzania’s has more than 220 000 Cape Buffalo, more than other African country.

The Buffalo hunting reserve covers an area of more than 30 000 square miles of wild and rugged African wilderness, with hunting areas comprising of rocky Acacia-clad hills, forests, wooded grasslands, and swamps, perfect for dangerous game hunts.

Hunting in Tanzania: Cape Buffalo and Impala Hunting

A typical day of your Cape Buffalo hunt will begin with an early morning rise, before dawn followed by a hot beverage and a five-star breakfast. Tanzanian outfitters know how to provide world class cuisne.

After first light, you will depart looking herds of Cape Bufalo within the hunting concession. Spend lots of time glassing the herds and talking with your professional hunter, they know how to judge a trophy Cape Buffalo.

Not all trophy hunters look for the perfect horn spread when judging a Cape Buffalo.  Some prefer Buffalo with characteristics horns that have been broken, or those Buffalo sporting a full “scrum cap”. Either way, there will be plenty of Dagga Boys to choose from.

Daylight hours will also be used to hunt plains game species on this license. Your professional hunter will be one of Africa’s most qualified dangerous game hunting specialists, and you can be sure that trackers will be some of the world’s best.
