Hunting in the Eastern Cape of South Africa offers a unique and diverse experience. The region features a mix of rolling hills, rugged terrain, and thick bushveld, providing both challenges and excitement for hunters. Popular for hunting plains game, such as kudu, springbok, and wildebeest, the Eastern Cape has a wide variety of Plains Game on offer.
The management of Game animals in South Africa is an integral part of ensuring sustainability. Efficient management ensures that carrying capacities are within recommended limits, thus preserving habitat. Management hunts are not only about ensuring that animal numbers are within thresholds but maintaining proper population structure.
If you are after a memorable hunting experience, and not necessarily the trophy, these plains game hunts offer an affordable opportunity to hunt desirable species.
The challenge on any management hunt is for the hunter/’s not to shoot the wrong animals referring to age, sex and size, but this is where your P.H. Kevin will assist.
International travelers can commence this hunting adventure by arriving in either Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, or Cape Town International (CPT). From either entry points into South Africa, you will need to take a domestic flight of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, arriving in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). For these domestic flights we would recommend flying with Air-Link, their flights are on time and affordable. Return domestic flights will cost on average US$ 200, depending on the season.
Upon arrival in Port Elizabeth, you will be met by your outfitter, Kevin or a member of the team. A scenic 2-hour drive to the hunting lodge camp follows, with breathtaking views of the Eastern Cape’s diverse landscapes.
You will be staying in a charming wooden lodge nestled near the farmhouse, perfectly situated offering panoramic views of the hunting grounds. The lodge features three tastefully designed twin rooms, each with its own private bathroom. Shared areas feature a cackling fireplace for cool evenings, plush couches that invite relaxation, and a dining area where delicious, home-cooked meals are served.
In the evening, cold beverages will be shared at the spacious outdoor fire pit. A decked pool beside the lodge offers a tranquil area to unwind and soak in the serene surroundings.
Non-hunters will find plenty to enjoy too! Whether you prefer to relax and savor the stunning views or embark on local excursions, there’s something for everyone. This hunting safari promises unforgettable memories and experiences.

South Africa is not regulated with regards to a specific hunting season and Plains Game Hunts can take place throughout the year. The cooler months, which run from April to October, are preferred. In summer, the temperatures are just too high. The drier months see the grasses being shorter in the veld, and the bush veld not as dense, both of which allow hunters to more easily spot their prey.
The months of November through to February are also the rainy season. Rain showers and bad weather can continue for days in the hotter months.
While the provision of a suitable hunting rifle is included on this African hunt, you may want to bring your own, being familiar and knowing trajectories etc. To import a firearm into South Africa for the purpose of hunting, you will need to complete a SAPS 520 form which you can obtain online.
International hunters bringing their own rifles will need to provide copy passports, copy airline tickets, letter of invitation from Kevin and proof of ownership (Customs declaration form 4457 for US citizens).
