Hunting safaris in Namibia are unique, remarkable, affordable, of exceptional quality, and importantly, these plains game hunts are both safe and challenging for the hunters.
Namibia is the only African big game hunting destination that delivers all of the Dangerous 7 in Africa. In Namibia, White Rhino and Black Rhino hunts are available and are legal.
Elephant hunting in Namibia takes place in the concession areas surrounding Bushmanland or in the Caprivi Strip. Tuskers around Bushmanland are known to have heavier ivory than Elephants hunted nearer Botswana in the Caprivi. These Elephants that traverse across the Chobe River from Botswana are smaller, on average 40 pounds, due to calcium deficiency in the soil.
Cape Buffalo hunts are also available in the Caprivi, but Buffalo hunts are limited to a trophy size of 40 inches, as agreed between outfitters operating in the areas. The intent for the next six years is to focus on letting the bigger Buffalo breed restore horn sizes to former levels found in the region. The Caprivi Strip is full of Cape Buffalo, with numbers estimated at more than 4200.
Leopard hunting in Namibia is one of the most sought-after safaris in Africa. These cats grow enormous, and their weight can reach 200 pounds. Leopard hunts in Namibia have an incredibly high success rate and are affordable compared to hunts in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia.
Lion hunts for problem animals are usually conducted nearer the famous Etosha Reserve in the North.
With Namibia mostly being arid, semi-desert, or desert, Hippo hunts are limited to the Caprivi. A Hippo hunt is one of the most action-packed safaris available and an exceptional value for money. As Hippos share the same habitats as the infamous Nile Crocodile, while tags are often limited, Crocodile hunting safaris are a favorite in this region, producing exceptional quality Crocodile. Crocodile hunting in Africa is recommended; we can personally vouch for the fact that it is not as easy as it looks.
We at Game Hunting Safaris went Crocodile hunting in Mozambique and shot monsters of 14,9 and 15,1 feet.
A hunt in Namibia is so exceptional, we went back for Cape Buffalo, another Hippo, and a non-exportable Elephant.
Namibia also offers a wide variety of plains game hunting opportunities and delivers exceptional Kudu and Eland Trophies. Endemic species such as Damara Dik-dik, Black Faced Impala, and Hartmann’s Zebra are also available.
Cheetah hunting in Namibia is legal. Namibia is the only African country where a Cheetah hunt, for males or female Cheetah, is legal.
When choosing your African hunting trip, Namibia has it all covered!!
In Namibia, Spotted Hyena hunting and Brown Hyena hunting are allowed, but the Brown Hyena is not exportable to the U.S.A.
If you have never been on a hunting safari in Africa, now is your opportunity to hunt in Namibia with Hugo, a well-known and respected African outfitter, at an affordable price and offering incredible value.
The point of entry into Namibia for this “Go Big” Plains Game hunt will be Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek).
Hugo, or a member of his team, will collect you at International Arrivals and assist with any firearm permit-related matters, should you be importing your own rifle. As Namibia welcomes game hunting safaris, the process of importing rifles is quick and simple, with one Firearm Permit Form needing to be completed with the Namibian Police on arrival, free of charge.
The transfer to the hunting concession will be via road to the Kohomas Hochland area and will take approximately two hours. Namibia has the highest-quality and best-maintained road system in Africa. Road transfers to the concession are safe, without the potholes that many African countries are famous for. No hunting time will be wasted on unnecessary travel.
There will also not be a need for any additional domestic charter flights, increasing the cost of the safari. Hunting in Namibia is affordable, fun, and value for money, with exceptional trophies available.
Hugo is an internationally known and respected African outfitter. He has been conducting game hunting safaris, for dangerous game hunts, specialty hunts, and African plains game hunts since 2010 and is thus well experienced on all matters relating to hunting in Namibia and South Africa.
Operating in these two territories, Hugo and his team are dedicated, committed, and focused on delivering dream African hunts.
The highest risk of malaria when hunting in Namibia is from November through to June. On any African hunt, unless you are miles away from malaria areas, it is always a good idea to take precautionary measures. Only the female Anopheles mosquito can cause Malaria. Like in any village or city in Africa, do not pet stray dogs and animals as they could have Rabies. If you have not recently had a preventative tetanus shot, i.e., in the last 8 years, it would be a good idea.
One often tends to get sick after long international flights with a light cold or flu. Quick back-up medical supplies are always handy, since hunts often take place in remote corners of the Dark Continent, without easy access to healthcare or supplies.
Doing a little research before the plains game hunt to perfect shot placement is always recommended. The vitals of African antelopes are slightly differently positioned from deer found in the US and elsewhere.
For the animals listed in this “Go Big” safari, any thirty caliber such as a .308, 30.06- or 300-Win Mag will get the job done. When plains game hunting, it is not always about the caliber, but finding the vitals to ensure a quick and humane death.
The hunting lodge is beautifully positioned on a hill offering spectacular views of the Namibian landscape. All rooms are comfortable with en-suite bathrooms and modern amenities.
Delicious cuisine is freshly prepared by your resident chef and includes delicacies from the cultural traditions of Namibia, being a blend of African, German, and Afrikaans. Your chef will delight in preparing fresh Wildebeest back-straps grilled to perfection over the open flame, or a breakfast dish of Springbuck liver with a hint of onion, garlic, and chili.
