Lake Cahora Bassa is situated in the Tete province, around 80 miles northwest of the city Tete. The lake is approximately 150 miles long and 19 miles wide at its widest point, with the average depth of the lake being about 69 feet. The maximum depth of Lake Cahora Bassa is around 515 feet.
This massive lake has five basins and numerous islands, providing a rich habitat for various animals, fish, and reptile species including hippos, crocodiles, sable, elephants, and kudu, to name but a few. The lake is a renowned fishing area, allowing hunters to indulge in some great tiger fishing, amongst other species, in the area. These man-eating apex predators are not fussy in terms of prey and will target anything that crosses their path.
The Nile crocodile primarily inhabits freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, and marshlands, making the impressive Lake Cahora Bassa the perfect hunting ground and habitat for them.
