This Elephant hunt in Botswana, for a fully exportable Trophy Elephant is one of the best hunting deals in Africa. Quota is limited.

The safari will take place in a concession bordering the Chobe National Park and the river borders the Caprivi Strip in Namibia.

We have personally hunted Hippo in this area, and it is truly magnificent in every aspect. This Elephant hunt is highly recommended. This area of Botswana bordering Namibia boasts incredible populations of Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Crocodile and Hippo. The Caprivi Strip, now known as the Zambezi Area, also has a wide variety of plains game, including Kudu, Sable, Puku and many more.

For this special offer, Elephant can be harvested up to forty pounds of ivory. Elephants in this area average forty pounds due to the lower levels of calcium in the soil. If an Elephant at bigger than forty pounds happens to present itself, it can be hunted for an additional cost of US$ 1000 per pound.

History of Elephant Hunting in Botswana

Botswana has a long history of Elephant hunting and for many years was the preferred destination for African hunting safaris, highly focused on big game hunting for Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Cape Buffalo.

In 2014, the Botswana issued a total ban on all types of hunting on Government land. Hunting could only take place on private land. The intention of the Government at the time was to shift the focus from hunting safaris to photographic.

In 2019, the Botswana Government lifted the ban on Elephant hunting under pressure from local communities.

The Elephant Hunting Area

This concession covers thousands of acres of prime Elephant hunting country. Due to the size of the concession, you’re bound to always be exploring a new part of Botswana every day.

During the rainy or wet season, the entire Caprivi fills like a “bath tub,” full of water. Hunting during the wet season can be exceptionally challenging as access into certain areas can only be achieved using a small Makoro, which is similar to a canoe, made by locals out of indigenous trees. Maintaining balance takes a little getting used to.

The best time to hunt Elephant in Botswana

The hunting season in Botswana runs from April to September, which also happen to be the cooler months. In summer, the temperatures are high, which cause an influx of critters such as insects, ticks and mosquitos.

Hunting Elephant in the heat can also have side effects such as dehydration, so stick to the cooler months as there will be a considerable amount of walking every day.

Elephant hunting in Botswana: Health

Hunting elephant can take you into malaria areas. Elephant hunts cover large areas of ground, so be sure to speak with your physician about obtaining a prescription against malaria.

The Elephant Hunt in Caprivi/Chobe: Botswana

Botswana in fact has the highest population of Elephants compared to any other African country and you will have many possible trophies to choose from. There are plenty of Elephant in this area and you will see between 200 and 400 every day.

A typical day of Elephant hunting will start with waking just before sunrise, having a light breakfast and then heading out early to find fresh tracks. There will be no need for daily long drives.

Once a good fresh track is found, you and your professional hunter and trackers will follow on it on foot, hoping they lead to the dream Elephant trophy. Because Botswana has so many Elephants, areas can also be glassed looking for the perfect Elephant bull. Once spotted, you and your professional hunter will decide on a plan on how to successfully stalk the Elephant and get into a shooting position.

In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and drinks and plan the next day’s strategy with your professional hunter.

Elephant Shot Placement

Successfully harvesting your trophy Elephant is going to be all about shot placement.

Elephant hunting will be at close quarters and as such, the angle between the hunter and the Elephant will need to be considered.

Head shots will be into the brain, either from the front or the side position. Should a shot be taken from the broadside position into the heart, the vitals will present a substantial target.

Elephant hunting in Botswana is serious business and not for the faint hearted, but one of the best value and adrenaline hunting safaris available.  This is an incredible opportunity to hunt big Elephants, in an area where trophy bulls are plentiful.

Elephant Hunting, Rifles and Equipment

When dangerous game hunting in Africa, a .375 caliber is normally the minimum legal requirement. When Elephant hunting, larger calibers such as a .458, 500 Jeffery, 416 Rigby or any good quality double rifle shooting quality ammunition is suggested.

Like with Cape Buffalo hunting, there is no such thing as “too much gun” when on an Elephant hunting safari.
