Meeting the Baka, also known as Pygmies, is a once in a lifetime opportunity, not even considering the privilege of hunting and tracking with the team. Hunting in Congo also offers the opportunity to see many rare, endemic and endangered animals such as Forest Gorillas, Bonobo’s, Okapis, Forest Elephants and African Grey Parrots.
The Tala Tala hunting region is situated approximately three hours by road transfer from the city of Ouesso, which is a short domestic flight from Brazzaville.
The entire concession is more than 600 000 acres, all free-range. There are no fences in Congo. This Buffalo hunt will take place on 80 000 acres, covered by rain forests.
Besides the Dwarf Buffalo the forest is home to Forest Sitatunga, Bongo and a variety of Duiker species which are available to hunt. The Yellow-Backed Duiker is especially prized by collectors.

Hunting in Congo is challenging due to extremely high humidity levels throughout the year. Most hunting areas receiving a significant amount of annual rainfall, roughly between 1600mm and 2000mm.
As Congo experiences high humidity levels, you will need to be prepared for a hot and humid climate. The forest vegetation is thick, and when walking, you will be constantly bending and stooping while navigating pathways.
Hunters can count on the fact that they will get wet, muddy and will need to pack and prepare accordingly. You will need specialized gear customized for these tropical conditions, being lightweight and moisture resistant, along with an excellent quality pair of boots.
Dwarf Buffalo remain classified as dangerous game, and these Buffalo hunts are exciting. Dwarf Buffalo, like with Cape Buffalo, are exceptionally dangerous when wounded and follow up, like on big game hunts, needs to be done while exercising extreme caution.
The Baka people have a close relationship to the forests and are traditional hunter gatherers. In certain instances, dogs may be used to bay the Dwarf Buffalo. Tracking conditions in the wet and humid conditions will certainly present a unique set of challenges.
Dwarf Buffalo are primarily grazers and the Baka, having local knowledge of favoured clearings, will search these areas for fresh tracks. These Buffalo also favor marshy areas where the buffalo can wallow in the mud.
Hunting Dwarf Buffalo will be in the form of a walk and stalk hunt, with the result being a shooting distance of 25 to 30 yards. Up close and personal, the way a Buffalo hunt should be done.
Day 1: Your international flight will see you landing in Brazzaville and transferring to your hotel of choice.
Brazzaville has many wonderful hotels and restaurants offering a variety of excellent cuisine choices. Brazzaville also has an array of options for tourists to visit. It may thus be a consideration to arrive a few days before the hunt or extend your stay following the hunt to take in some of the local attractions.
Day 2: Transfer from your hotel in Brazzaville to the airport for your domestic flight to Ouesso. Transfer to the hunting lodge from Ouesso will take approximately three hours by vehicle.
Days 3 to 12 will be full days of Dwarf Buffalo hunting.
Day 13: Transfer by road back to Ouesso and taking the domestic flight back to Brazzaville. Depending on the departure time of your flight from Brazzaville, you may need to overnight again.
