Tanzania, the worlds largest reserve , totally unfenced and one of the few remaining pristine wilderness areas in existence.
*** Observers are welcome at US$ 590 per night per person
The Selous Reserve is an enormous area of more than 5 million acres, plus it is surrounded by a further 2 million acres of “buffer zone”. The reserve supports the largest populations of African game animals compared to anywhere else on the African continent. Within the reserve, human habitation is prohibited to protect wildlife and fragile biospheres. To protect the Selous’s pristine environment, the Tanzanian Game Department doesn’t make the hunting safaris ” at a discount”. Big game hunters pay “top Dollar for the privilege of hunting in the Selous. The presence of hunters has a low negative impact on the environment and expensive Government fees provide a consequent high financial income,
The Game Department ensures the sustainability of the Selous’s game populations by limiting the number of animals hunted by means of a licensing system, along with strict quotas on all species. No permanent buildings are allowed in the Selous Reserve. At the end of the hunting season, every area must be vacated by outfitters / leaseholders and all traces of human habitation removed. Camps are staffed by a multitude of competent Tanzanians.
The hunting safari will commence with a flight into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam. Annelie, will gladly provide guidance with any hotel bookings and advice for an overnight stay in the city of Dar Es Salaam.
You will then proceed to Selous via a private charter flight, or by road transfer depending on the choice when booking the hunt in Tanzania.

The Selous produces exceptional quality Bulls, in excess of 46 inches is very possible. Bigger Buffalo Bulls are regularly taken. Cape Buffalo in herds of more than a hundred are a common sighting. “Dugga Boys”, Africa’s “Black Death” are known to be extremely cantankerous, only getting worse with age. A Cites permit is not required when Buffalo hunting in Tanzania. When hunting Buffalo, these animals need to be treated with great respect, even more so when wounded. A Cape Buffalo is only classified as dead when he is “in the salt”.

Hunting Africa’s Black Death will follow the principals of “fair chase”. A typical day Buffalo hunting will start after a light breakfast and coffee, then head out to waterholes, or other areas to look for fresh spoor and signs of Buffalo activity. Once a suitable spoor is identified, hunters will set out on foot, tracking down a single “Dagga” Boy, or following a herd, hoping to identify mature trophy bulls. You and your professional hunter will carefully observe the herd, or try get “eyes” on a single bull.
Once a suitable bull is identified (age, horn size etc.) hunters will stalk and try get into shooting range. This hunting method is referred to as a “spot and stalk”. You can be guaranteed that this hunt will be “up close and personal”. Only a bullet in the brain is going to stop a Buffalo, charging at more than thirty miles an hour.
