Hunting in Zambia – Zambian laws require certain minimum hunting days for select species. All game that is listed in each area, if available on quota, can be hunted. Please note your preferences on our “additional requirements” section when booking your hunt to ensure that Jackson can reserve specific species for your hunt from their quota. Quotas are set by the Zambian Wildlife Authority.
Note: Jackson can also arrange to hunt the At Large Government Areas in Zambia. These non-operated area operations for Kafue Lechwe (Kafue flats), Sitatunga and Black Lechwe (Bangweulu Swamp) can be added to a package on request.
Zambia is one of the best places in Africa to hunt dangerous game such as lion, leopard, buffalo and elephant, as well as a great variety of plains game. The finest sable in Africa are found in Zambia, along with Black Lechwe and other plains game species found nowhere else. Combine this dangerous game and other wildlife diversity with the highest percentage area coverage of protected areas (national parks and the buffer zones around the parks) in Africa and you have an open-range wilderness safari experience unrivaled across the African continent.
Luangwa River Valley Camp Situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, the camp you will stay in offers you the ultimate escape. Experience the sights and sounds of Africa while you enjoy the fine dining and comfortable accommodations. Every tent is fitted with en-suite bathroom facilities and Mosquito netted protection. Meals are catered to suit individual requirements. Enjoy your early morning coffee as elephants cross the river and sunset beach picnics as hippos lurk in the water just steps away. This camp encompasses a truly authentic wilderness experience. There are two preferred methods of travel to/from Luangwa. The first is by daily commercial flights from Lusaka to the Mfuwe Airport. This is a one-hour flight and costs approximately $600.00 per person round trip (price is subject to change) but there is a 2-to-7-hour drive to camp, depending upon which one. The second is via private charter to a nearby dirt landing strip near each of our camps.
Our Kafue concession, located on the border of Kafue National Park, has been a destination known for record setting Sable Antelopes, excellent Defassa Waterbuck, large Tom Leopards, and big maned Lions. With abundant Hippo, Crocodile, and high-quality plains game populations, this concession provides an opportunity of a lifetime. The best way to reach camp from Lusaka is either by driving a 4-hour trip through some of the most beautiful scenic game rich country Africa has to offer, or via private charter. Situated on the River front of the famous Kafue River, the hunting camp is teaming with bird life, hippo, and crocodile. Indulge in the amazing cuisine while experiencing the unique sights and sounds of Africa. Every tent is fitted with en-suite bathroom facilities and Mosquito netted protection. Meals are catered to suit individual requirements.
Nchila/Nkwaji Game Reserves Located in the Northwest area of Zambia at the headwaters of the Zambezi River near the Angolan and DNC borders, these two private reserves are home to some of Africa’s most beautiful plains game. By design, the local villagers are much involved at all levels of the operation and one can find footpaths and villages all throughout. The different animals in the two reserves are all indigenous to the area and most were re-introduced two decades ago after the animals had disappeared from poaching. The reserves contain wooded forest, plains, swamps and riverine areas, all hosting different flora and fauna. This is a great second or initial stop to collect some high quality trophies that might be difficult to obtain elsewhere on one’s way to/from Luangwa or Kafue. The reserve is well known for its Sable genetics, Sitatunga and Lechwe species hunting, and being one of the few places in Africa where one can hunt all of the duiker species. The camp can be reached by a 2-hour charter flight that lands 40 minutes from the camp. This remote luxury camp is clean and comfortable and offers a warm feel with its cozy beds, hot showers, good food and daily laundry service.

Community visits Spend some time with the local villages and visit some of our current education, health, and community projects we are proud to be helping with. We highly recommend that everyone who hunts with visits the communities that their hunt helps support.
Sundowners An iconic tradition. As the sun sinks below the horizon, there is nothing better than finding a spectacular spot in the heart of the bush for an ice-cold beverage to watch the sun sink below the horizon, like you have never seen before.
Night drives Heighten your senses, as a whole new cast of characters fills the landscape of Zambia at night. With the help of a spotlight, take to the road with your private guide and see what you can find. You will not want to leave Zambia without seeing the wildlife come to life under the stars
Walking Safaris The walking safari was born in South Luangwa National Park, so it’s only fitting that you experience this incredible landscape on foot with the very finest guides. This unique way of wildlife viewing gets you up close and personal with the wildlife
Private Game Drives Safari on your own terms, and tailor your trip to exactly what you want. Explore the rich diversity and incredible wildlife of Zambia on a private game drive. On four wheels, you’ll cover as much of the region as possible and maximize your game-viewing.
It is always recommended that you bring your own gun as you are familiar with it. Hunting Plains Game a 30-06, .270 or 300 win mag will be sufficient and a .375 for the bigger game will be fine. If you are looking at any of the dangerous game a .375 is the minimum legal requirement and anything bigger that you’re comfortable with would work nicely (is there such a thing as too much gun??)
Maximum number of firearms allowed per person is 3
Maximum ammunition of 100 rounds per rifle (but airlines are more restrictive, limiting you to 11pounds so bear this in mind)
A Yellow fever vaccination certificate is a requirement.
Zambia is a malaria area. Taking the necessary precautions is essential. Your local physician will assist.
A tetanus shot and a general antibiotic while not a requirement is suggested. Better safe than sorry!!
Please note that terms, conditions and price are subject to change without notice and rates at the time of the hunt will apply
