Do you have a trophy Sitatunga on your safari hunting list? This African plains game hunt in Zambia has it covered. Embark on an unforgettable hunting adventure in one of Africa’s most sought-after hunting destinations.
A Zambian hunting safari is a hunt in true “Old Africa!” Hunting GMAs are remote, untamed with healthy populations of dangerous and African plains game animals. This outfitter has enjoyed a 100% success ratio on Sitatunga hunts in the Tondwa GMA which is in northern Zambia.
Zambia is spectacular with its rugged beauty, thick vegetation, and lush riverine forests. The country is known for its diverse wildlife, which includes iconic species such as elephants, lions, Cape buffalo, and leopards. This hunt for a trophy Sitatunga will take place in the Tondwa GWA. This is the premier hunting destination for Sitatunga, Roan, Sable, Eland, Puku, Bushpig, warthog, and Blue Duiker in this diverse and richly populated concession.
Hunting in Zambia, to protect Africa’s wildlife is highly regulated with very specific hunting seasons. Zambia always has very limited quotas to ensure the sustainability of wildlife.
The cost of a Zambian hunting safari is often considered by many hunters as on the “upside.” Safari hunting in Zambia is more costly than hunting high fenced areas such as South Africa and parts of Namibia and Botswana, due to the remoteness of the concessions, the short hunting season, limited quotas, and operating costs in remote African areas.
Zambia is also famous for Hippo hunts, the country has exceptionally healthy populations of Hippos. Sharing the same habitat as Hippos, Crocodile hunting safaris in Zambia are exceptionally popular.
If you think hunting a Sitatunga in Zambia is going to be “easy and straight” forward, think again. Sitatunga is also known as “the ghost of the swamps” and for good reason.
A hunt in Zambia for this incredible spiral horn antelope is going to take you into the swamps. These antelope are semi-aquatic, with elongated and wide-splayed hooves allowing them to walk on soft terrain such as the marshes and swamp grounds without sinking.
The adaptation of their hooves also allows the Sitatunga to quickly escape predators by fleeing into deeper waters.
These antelope are nocturnal and diurnal but are more active like many antelope on African hunts at dusk and dawn, preferring the reeds of the swamp during the midday heat.
Sitatunga hunting involves preparation and pre-scouting. Before the commencement of the hunting safari, the papyrus has to be slashed to increase visibility, and a cerebeti, which is an elevated platform, must be built in the trees or on the floating papyrus.
Hunting Sitatunga, in the swamps surrounded by Hippo and Crocodiles is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime hunting adventure with big rewards. Not many hunters can boast of a Sitatunga in their trophy room.

A Zambian hunting safari is one of the greatest and most memorable African hunts that can be undertaken by those hunters who are willing and able.
As the Sitatunga is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, a CITES permit is not required and the trophy is fully exportable.
This African outfitter has a wealth of game hunting experience, including Elephant, Hippo, Crocodile, Buffalo, and African plains game. They operate in numerous territories/GMA’s within Zambia, depending, of course, on the target species.
As can be expected when hunting in Zambia this is not a fenced-off area, but remote Africa where game traverses freely.
The hunting lodge is a typical African-style tent overlooking the wetlands of the Tondwa GMA boasting incredible birdlife and game viewing opportunities.
Central dining areas are of an African theme with lapa-style firepits. With your private chef, you can be sure that cuisine will be of exceptional standard.
A hunt in Africa does not get better than relaxing in the evening with a cold beer or whiskey contemplating the successes of the day while enjoying Africa in all her glory.
Option 1
Zambia can be entered via Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. You will land in the capital city of Lusaka and from there take a private charter plane to the GMA. This charter can be arranged directly with the outfitter. Depending on your arrival time in Lusaka, it may be wise to stay overnight in Lusaka.
Option 2
Should a commercial flight be taken to Kasama, transfer to the hunting concession will be via road transfer.
Both the Kenneth Kaunda Airport and Kasama can be reached by flying via Oliver Tambo Airport in South Africa, and then flying using an airline such as Airlink to the primary destination. Flights from South Africa are affordable, on-time, and are geared for those hunters flying with firearms.
A visa is required when hunting in Zambia and can be obtained in advance from the Zambian embassy. There is a limit of three firearms, but no limit on ammunition (100 rounds should suffice)
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is a requirement. Zambia is a malaria area and taking precautions are essential. Your local physician will be able to assist with the vaccination and prescription.
Ensuring you have had a tetanus shot in the last ten years is also recommended, better safe than sorry.
When safari hunting in Africa, it is wise to ask your medical practitioner for a general antibiotic. There is always a bug of sorts you seem to get, such as a cold, flu, or something similar when on long international flights.
As the Tondwa concession is packed with other game, on this 10 Day hunt you will be able to hunt additional animals as per the below trophy fees: Kudu Hunting (US$ 3000)
Hunting in Zambia takes place between May to December, which is a noticeably short hunting season. With quota being low and the season short, hunts in Zambia are in high demand.
May to August would be preferable as these are the cooler months.
Should the African hunt be canceled 180 days before the effective date, refunds will not be able to be made. With all other cancellations, a 5% administration fee will apply.
A deposit to secure this plains game hunt will be equal to 50% of the day fees, namely US$ 8 000 which is due within 7 days of making the booking
