The capable team of Lazaro with PH Giles has been hunting and offering hunting safaris within the Lunda Nkwambi GCA Hunting Block for many years. The area is known for delivering impressive trophies for both African plains game and dangerous game. This experienced duo and their team are ready to welcome hunters to Lunda Nkwambi for an unforgettable dangerous game hunting safari!
Their primary objective is to provide unique hunting experiences for clients. These, in turn, generate economic and social development in the area while simultaneously contributing to wildlife conservation.
Nothing says dangerous game hunting quite like Tanzania, and the destination is renowned as one of the premier dangerous game hunting locations in Africa. Home to all of Africa’s Big 5, Tanzania allows the hunting of four of these magnificent trophies, except for the Rhino.
But it’s Africa’s Black Death, or the Widow Maker, that gets a hunter’s heart beating faster. Whether it’s the thought of the quality trophy beautifully displayed back home, or perhaps the thrill of the chase, a Cape buffalo hunt in Tanzania ticks all the boxes in terms of species, challenges, an authentic African hunting experience, and, of course, plenty of action! The Cape Buffalo has earned its place in Africa’s Big 5 and is often regarded as one of Africa’s most dangerous animals to hunt, something to keep front of mind as you prepare for the hunt.
Some points worth considering when Cape Buffalo hunting:
• The Cape Buffalo is seen as being aggressive and unpredictable, and can become aggressive without warning should they feel threatened or if they are wounded.
• Be sure that your shot placement is accurate and be prepared for follow up shots. The Cape Buffalo is tough and resilient: It will not hesitate to charge and defend itself should it be wounded. Added to that, the old saying goes that it takes one bullet to down a Buffalo, and another couple to convince it that it’s dead! Adequate preparation remains key.
• These beasts are renowned for both their power and speed, reaching speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. When you have close to 2,000 pounds of thundering Buffalo (together with its sharp horns!) bearing down on you, it can be rather intimidating and stressful!
• Cape Buffalo possess a great sense of smell and hearing, and these, combined with their ability to camouflage themselves, make for a very challenging hunt.
• This hunting adversary is known to be extremely dangerous when wounded, and will often double back on the hunter, launching a surprise attack from behind.
• Situated in Western Tanzania, this remote hunting block allows for hunters to experience an authentic African hunting safari, offering free-range hunts on a 300,000-acre hunting block.
• Lunda Nkwambi allows hunters to encounter diverse landscapes during their safari, including woodlands, savannas, and river systems, with a wide range of habitats suiting both African plains game and dangerous game species.
• The hunting block is home to about 70% of Tanzania’s huntable species, including members of Africa’s Big 5 and Dangerous 7, as well as iconic antelopes such as Kudu and Eland.
• The region is renowned for its remoteness, natural beauty, array of wildlife, and diverse ecosystems.
• The Lunda Nkwambi GCA is seen as one of the best hunting blocks that Tanzania has to offer, with the overall hunting experience that it offers hunters in the region being exceptional.
• For hunters, it provides a memorable hunting experience, with the combination of its size, rich biodiversity, and relatively low human population all being major draw-cards.
• The area participates in conservation efforts to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the area. These include structured conservation management through TAWA, community involvement in wildlife management, ongoing monitoring of wildlife populations, and various anti-poaching programs.

The Cape Buffalo is the only member of Africa’s Big 5 that may be hunted using a bow. As a member of Africa’s Big 5, a minimum of a .375 caliber rifle must be used when hunting the Cape Buffalo and any other dangerous game in Tanzania.
Hunting methods for Cape buffalo are generally the traditional walk-and-stalk method, after initially utilizing a vehicle to cover large distances while glassing. Trackers will search for tracks (spoor), or signs that the buffalo have been through the area, or spotting of the actual herd itself.
From there onwards, the hunting party will proceed on foot, carefully using the landscape and terrain to their advantage, as they slowly stalk their prey until they are within striking range.
The minimum legal requirement for Cape Buffalo hunting is a .375 caliber shooting a 300-grain bullet. A well-placed bullet from a 416 Rigby, 404 Jeffery, 458 WM, or Lott also will bring down this strong prey. Double rifles such as the 470NE, 500NE, and up are preferred, especially when in close quarters with this dangerous adversary.
• Remain focused and alert, the bush is a very unpredictable environment where changes happen at the drop of a hat.
• Read up and know about the correct shot placement for your targeted species, to ensure a quick death for the animal.
• Become acquainted with the hunting laws of the country, as well as the hunting area.
• Listen to your PH…he is the expert.
• Ensure all gear is in excellent condition and suited to the terrain and species you are targeting.
• Safety first, always. Once the animal is shot, do not approach immediately, and be ready with a follow-up shot should it be needed.
• Give the animal time and space before it tries one last time to attack.
Remember to check requirements before visiting Tanzania, as they may change at any given time.
