Planning your trip to Nyakasanga, Zambezi Valley, Zimbabwe’s top hunting concessions, marks the start of an unforgettable African safari. Preparation ensures a smooth transition from home to the untamed beauty of Zimbabwe, where your hunting adventure will begin.
For this hunt, you will need to enter Zimbabwe at Harare International Airport (HRE), Zimbabwe’s primary international gateway. Carriers such as South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Qatar Airways provide seamless connections through major transit points such as Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, and Doha. To guarantee a smooth start to your hunting safari, it is suggested set aside a day in Harare (before and after the safari), or in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Depending on flight times, it may be optional to spend a night in Johannesburg if you choose to reach Harare via Oliver Tambo Airport. Airlink is recommended for the return flight to Harare. Flights are affordable (+- US$ 400 return), on time and importantly serve “adult beverages”. Airlink also has facilities in place for rifles transfers. We would recommend African Sky Boutique Hotel situated in close proximity to OR Tambo Airport. Not only will management arrange transfers to and from African Sky/OR Tambo, but they will also assist with any firearm permits. For further information, see our “Affiliated Services” link below.
Depending on preferences, hunters can opt for a charter flight or a road transfer .
Both camps are safe, comfortable, and accessible by road or air, setting the stage for a remarkable safari in Africa and unforgettable hunting in Zimbabwe.
The country offers a rare opportunity to pursue some of the most sought-after animals worldwide. Whether your choice is the elusive Leopard or the formidable Cape Buffalo, each promises a unique and unforgettable experience that epitomizes dangerous game hunting in Africa.
Hunting a Leopard is a test of patience, precision, and strategy. These apex predators are masters of camouflage, their spotted coats blending seamlessly with the dappled light of Zimbabwe’s bushveld. Success often hinges on perfect bait placement and the hunter’s ability to remain completely silent and unseen.
The danger lies in the Leopard’s unpredictability.
Choosing to hunt a Cape Buffalo, often called “Africa’s Black Death,” is equally exhilarating. Known for their immense power and unpredictable temperament, Buffalo are not easily intimidated. A wounded Buffalo may circle back to ambush its hunter, requiring nerves of steel and exceptional marksmanship.
Located on the banks of the Ume River in the North Omay region, the Ume Camp borders the stunning Matusadona National Park. The camp features four permanent, well-constructed rooms with en-suite bathrooms, providing comfortable accommodation for up to eight guests. The communal areas include a dining area, a bar with picturesque views of the river, and a swimming pool. The camp offers reliable Wi-Fi and is family-friendly. Guests can enjoy boat transfers and fishing, with a chance to spot various wildlife from the camp. At night, it’s common to hear the sounds of hippos, lions, hyenas, and elephants.
Situated in the South Omay region, Chifudzi Camp is a landlocked camp with three permanent structures, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms. It can comfortably accommodate up to six guests. The camp features a bar and dining area overlooking a lush green valley and a small water pan, where visitors can observe various species of African plains game, including frequent sightings of Buffalo and Elephants.
Both camps offer easy access by road or air, providing guests with a comfortable and safe experience in the heart of Zimbabwe’s wilderness. Deciding on which camp will be used will be dependent on the sought after trophy.
Hunting safaris in Zimbabwe are conducted all year round, but the cooler and drier months from early April to late October are preferred.
In the warmer months, insect activity increases, such as pepper ticks which can make the consequences of walking through the brush even more of a challenge. Mosquitoes and other small pests are also far more active in the warmer and wetter conditions. In high temperatures, the risk of dehydration also increases and the importance of maintaining hydration is critical.
But, with that been said, Zimbabwe is great to hunt Leopard and Cape Buffalo anytime of the year!!
There is no limit to the number of firearms a hunter may import in Zimbabwe for sports hunting purposes.
No matter your choice, the pursuit of either a Leopard or Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe embodies the essence of dangerous game hunting!!!
