The point of entry into Namibia for this Hyena hunt will be Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek).
Hugo, or a member of his team will collect you at the airport and assist with any firearm permit related issues. The transfer to the hunting lodge and concession will be via road to the Kohomas Hochland area and will take approximately two hours. Namibia, for interest’s sake, has the highest quality and best maintained road system compared to any other African country.
No hunting time will be wasted on unnecessary travel. There is also no need for domestic charter flights increasing costs, meaning more funds available for hunting.
Hugo is well respected and an internationally recognized Namibian based outfitter has been conducting dangerous game and plains game hunts since 2010.
Operating in the two territories, namely South Africa and Namibia, this team is focused on delivering dream African safaris at a great price in spectacular settings.
Hugo and his team have a history of success in delivering quality trophy animals.
Spotted and Brown Hyena’s share the same habitat as one of the most sought-after safaris by international hunters, a Leopard Hunt in Namibia.
Spotted Hyena in comparison to Brown Hyena are the more dominant species as they live in clans, where Brown Hyena are mostly solitary creatures and are often “pushed out” by Spotted Hyenas being dominant in size and numbers.
Having been on a Spotted Hyena hunting safari in South Africa the team here at Game Hunting Safaris can verify this to be an incredibly unique and challenging hunt. Our battle was trying to stay awake as besides hunting into the night and early mornings, we had to travel many miles per day. Spotted Hyena 1 / GHS 0.
Fortunately, on this Hyena hunt in Namibia, many hours per day will not be wasted spending time traveling, allowing time and energy to spent hunting additional species such as the Black-Faced Impala and Damara Dik-Dik.
Note that Brown Hyena are not exportable to the US. As CITES records Spotted Hyena as a species of least concern, permits are issued for Spotted Hyena Hunts.
Both Spotted and Brown hyena hunts can be conducted using various methods. Baiting of Hyenas is favorite where large areas in the concession are dragged with “entrails” from previous hunts so that Hyena can pick up the scent and traverse to the baited area where a temporary blind will have been constructed.
Using Fox Pro Callers is also a favorite method of Hyena hunting as Hyena are very responsive to calls. Nothing is quite as thrilling as listening to a Spotted, or “Laughing Hyena” respond to the distress calls. The chances of a Leopard responding to the caller is high and an awesome encounter.
When Brown Hyena enter the arena, they are silent, and you will hear the “thudding” of their paws as they run which is caused by these Hyena actually being “double jointed” above the pad, causing their paws to “slap” the ground.
When Hyena hunting, success is all about shot placement. Placing a high-quality expanding bullet in the area of the vital organs will anchor the Hyena.
Both Brown and Spotted Hyena are not exceptionally tough animals, and any thirty caliber such as a 30.06, 375- or 300-Win Mag will secure your trophy hyena. All species of Hyena make for excellent trophies, especially when full mounted by specialist taxidermists.
Hyena hunts are best conducted in the cooler months which run from late April to August.
While the game hunting season In Namibia runs from 1st February to 30th November, the summer temperatures can be extremely high, making hunts exceptionally challenging.
If you have not hunted Namibia before, now is your chance at a great price with an exceptional outfitter.
The hunting lodge is situated on a hill offering spectacular views of Namibian landscape. The rooms are all comfortable with en-suite bathrooms.
Cuisine will be delicious and will be prepared in line with the cultural traditions, being a blend of African, German and Afrikaans.
