TROPHY CROCODILE HUNTING IN NAMIBIA

The Crocodile Hunting Concession

This “no-fence” free range hunting concession has bountiful big five game and antelope and is nestled between the Chobe and Zambezi River.

The Outfitter has a 100% success on Crocodile hunts conducted in this area.

In the Caprivi, not only are there plenty of Nile Crocodiles, but the Zambezi Region is also jam packed with the African “Water Horse”, the Hippo. Hippo are plentiful  and as such Bull Hippo hunts are of exceptional quality. As can thus be expected, Hippo hunting in Namibia, while limited due to availability of tags, is a popular choice of safari.

There are huge herds of African Elephant that migrate and cross the Chobe River, from Botswana into Namibia in search of greener pastures.

Pieter, an internationally recognized and accomplished outfitter with a reputation and history of delivering world-class hunting safaris. The team at Game Hunting Safaris has hunted been on safari three times with Pieter, 2 x Hippo hunts, Cape Buffalo and Elephant. You will not be disappointed booking this Crocodile Hunting Safari.

crocodile hunting trophy

Botswana has the highest population density of Elephant in all of Africa, with numbers exceeding 140 000. There are so may Elephant in Botswana that in fact as we have seen in recent press,  the Botswana Government is happy to give them away to other countries in batches of 10000, at ZERO cost.

If you are looking for and high quality and affordable Elephant hunt, Caprivi is just the place.

The Caprivi region offers Crocodile hunts of lifetime!!

The area is also very popular for Cape Buffalo hunts. Buffalo populations are estimated at more than 4500. In an agreement between outfitters and government, Buffalo of more than 40 inches, for next six years will not hunted in order to restore trophy quality to the area.

The river-ways, estuaries and waterways will also provide you with the opportunity to fish for Tiger-fish, which can grow up to twenty pounds in the Chobe River.

The Caprivi Strip, being an adventurous landscape is not always that easy to navigate. Those who care to take up this incredible Crocodile hunting challenge will be well rewarded with an exceptional trophy.

Crocodile Hunting Method

On this Crocodile hunt there will be plenty of trophy Crocodiles to choose from. Stalking up close and going unnoticed, that’s going to be the ultimate challenge.

Fifteen-foot Crocodiles are over 80 years old, and they do not grow so big by being stupid.

A typical day of Crocodile hunting will begin after sunrise and a “proper African breakfast.” Pieter’s team knows how to lay out a “proper spread”. All meals are exceptional, and you will be looking forward to some walking and exercise.

Crocodile Hunting methods will vary depending on the level of the floodplains at the time of the safari and hunting methods will be:

  • Walking embankments of surrounding rivers and estuaries while spotting for giant Crocodiles.
  • Traversing using a Makoro through the reed banks.
  • Making use of a vehicle to cover larger areas in areas where access can be gained.

As the Zambezi is relatively flat and walking a couple of miles a day is not classified as “extreme hunting”. In fact, these outings are very pleasant due to the scenic environment and high populations of African game animals.

At all times remain on “high alert” as the reed banks are filled with giant crocodile, happy to snatch a quick meal. Hippos occupy the same territories are pose even a bigger threat when alarmed or protecting their young.

Crocodile hunts are filled with action, adventure and surprises. We had more than a few on our hippo safari!!

Once a suitable trophy has been spotted and identified, the walk and stalk will begin. You and the professional hunter will strategize and agree on the best plan of approach.

Crocodile Shot Placement

Never underestimate the importance effective Crocodile Shot Placement. This Apex ambush predator is a perfectly designed killing machine, focusing only on death.

Failure to anchor your Crocodile trophy will see him slipping back into the waterways and estuaries, gone forever.  Perfecting Crocodile shot placement, while not that complex or difficult is probably the most stressful part of the hunt. We at Game Hunting Safaris also experience this aspect when Crocodile hunting in Mozambique. Taking a long shot with the point of aim being the size of a golf ball gets the blood pumping.

The best Season for Crocodile hunts the Caprivi

The Caprivi, being characterized by floodplains is affected by the rainy season. The Zambezi literally “fills up” like a bathtub during the rainy season.  The dry winter months are the preferred period for Crocodile hunts which run from May to September.

Temperatures are more pleasant, with lower levels of humidity and a reduced risk of dehydration. Pesty critters such as Ticks are also less active.

The Hunting Adventure & the Community

This hunt focuses on the challenges and achievement of spotting, hunting and crocodile shot placement along with the thrill of the pursuit.  The memories and stories you take home following this hunt will be beyond comparison.

Importantly, these Crocodile hunts in Namibia contribute to wildlife conservation and community upliftment initiatives. This outfitter is committed to building roads, rehabilitating waterholes, installing solar panels and water pumps while continually uplifting and improving the quality of life in the local communities.

As a direct result of contributions made by big game hunters, outfitters are able to employ and train local community members as trackers, skinners, chefs and camp attendants.  Communities in Namibia have a vested interest in ensuring the preservation of all animal species.

It is rewarding to take a day trip to one of the local villages and see the extent of how the residents benefit as a direct result of your Crocodile hunt.  The experience is humbling!
