Gabon is situated on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa and is bordered by Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, and Republic of Congo.
Gabon is a little larger than 100 000 square miles and has a population of approximately 2,7 million people. The country consists of coastal plains, mountains and in the east, Savannah areas. Libreville is the country’s capital and largest city.
Gabon, while still a developing country, is one of the wealthiest African countries based on per capita income. Gabon’s original inhabitants were the pygmy people, and Gabon was originally colonized by the French in the late 19th century. Gabon thereafter gained its independence from France in 1960.
The hunting grounds are 5 hours’ drive from the city of Franceville. The concession borders the Lope National Parks, Gabon’s most famous national park.
The concession covers thousands of acres of pristine rain forest. It is home to a wide variety of common Duikers (Blue, Bay and Peter’s), as well as the more illusive species such as the White-Bellied, Gabon, Ogilby’s, Black-Fronted Duiker and Yellow-Backed Duiker.
The concession has a history of producing exceptional Sitatunga and Dwarf Buffalo Trophies.
A safari in Gabon is best conducted during the dry season. The drier months influence animal behavior making them a little more predictable. This season also make the animals a little easier to find and assists with improving logistics as to transport.
While Gabon hunts can take place all year long, the preferred season would be from March to November.
Day 1: The safari will commence with your arrival in the city of Libreville, your primary destination of your inbound flight into Gabon.
Libreville is also known as the “Jewel of the West African Coast” and boasts some incredible cuisine. Restaurants provide a delightful mix of flavors, from traditional Gabonese dishes to French bistros and seafood restaurants.
Cyrus, along with the members of the team, will meet with you and you will overnight in the city of Libreville.
Day 2: Hunters will take a domestic transfer back to the airport, thereafter a domestic flight to the city of Franceville which will leave at approximately 10h00. This domestic flight takes one and half hours. Transfer to the hunting lodge will be via road and will take approximately six hours, depending on the conditions.
Day 3 to Day 12: 10 full days of hunting in Gabon
Day 13: Road transfer from the hunting lodge to Franceville and then taking the midday flight to Libreville. Hunters will again overnight in Libreville before departing on their international flights.
The hunting lodge is a comfortable camp situated within the forest areas. There is running water, bathrooms and flushing toilets. When hunting in these remote areas in Africa, a satellite phone is always recommended.
Gabon has a wide variety of animals available on this 13 Day Safari. Note that trophy fees are quoted in Euros.
Hunting in Gabon can be a challenge, with many of the targeted species being elusive. With the assistance of local hunters and guides, hunting methods will vary from tracking, calling and stalking, depending on your quarry.
