Are you ready to take on Africa’s Black death?
Cape Buffalo in Zambia, are African Savannah Buffalo (sycerrus caffer) and have occupied these hunting blocks for thousands of years.
Rifle Rental is available at US$ 30 per day and US$ 10 per round.
Cape Buffalo hunts are subject to strict quota. Hunting is limited to only hunting mature males. This principal ensures that breeding herd strengths are never compromised, ensuring top quality trophies for generations to come.
This safari hunt takes place in the Rufunsa GMA, situated in the lower Zambezi Valley, with Steven being the African outfitter and Professional Hunter. The concession borders the Zambezi National Park and just across the river is the renowned Chewore Safari Area of Zimbabwe.
Rufunsa GMA is more than 800 000 acres in size and acts as a significant “buffer zone” to the eastern border of the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Vegetation in Rufunsa is typical Mopani woodland and thick Jesse bush, perfect for Free- Range Cape Buffalo hunting.
The thick vegetation delivers some quality plains game antelope such as Lechwe (Black and Kafue), Puku, Sable and Roan to name a few.
Rufunsa has extremely healthy populations of Cape Buffalo. While the exact numbers are difficult to pinpoint, it’s estimated to be several thousand.
Rufunsa in recent years has been under hunted, so if a big Tom Leopard or Lion on your list, Rufunsa is a go-to concession in Zambia.
The lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River and consists of three newly erected permanent chalets.
Each unit has its own on-suite bathroom with all the modern amenities that can be expected.
There is a central dining and outdoor entertainment area with incredible views of the Zambezi.
The hunting lodge is secluded and extremely comfortable. The chef will prepare African themed delicacies and will not hesitate to barbeque a Buffalo backstrap grilled to perfection over the open coals.
In camp WI-FI is available.
There are beautiful and large herds of Cape Buffalo in the Rufunsa concession area and Buffalo hunts will be conducted using the classic approach of looking for tracks and following the selected animals on foot. Tracking down your trophy Buffalo will a reasonable amount of walking, so you will need to be in relatively good shape.
This track and stalk method will on occasion take you into “the thick stuff” to where the Buffalo bed down in selected areas during the mid-day heat.
Once a trophy Cape Buffalo has been tracked and located, you and Steven will walk to within shooting range. With any luck, hopefully the Buffalo will shortly thereafter be on the way to the salt room and field prepped.
This is a dangerous game hunting at its best!!!
Hunters will enter Zambia via Lusaka and land at Kennith Kaunda International Airport. A popular route is to fly via Oliver Tambo International Airport in South Africa using airlines such as Airlink which are affordable. Airlink is geared to cater for the transport of firearms.
If you are planning to overnight in Johannesburg, South Africa, please see our affiliated services link below. African Sky Boutique Hotel provides transfers to and from OR Tambo and will also assist with rifle permits.
Included in the safari price, are return road transfers from Kennith Kaunda International in Lusaka. This transfer will take approximately 3 to 5 hours, depending on road conditions at the time. A private charter can be arranged with Steven reducing the travelling time to Rufunsa to approximately 40 minutes.
A Yellow fever vaccination certificate is a requirement.
Zambia and the Rufunsa Concession is malaria area. Taking the necessary precautions is essential. Your local physician will assist.
A tetanus shot, while not a requirement is suggested. Better safe than sorry!!
On any African hunt, it is suggested to ask your physician for a general antibiotic. One often seems to get a “bug” following long international flights.
On a Cape Buffalo hunt, you going to need to bring your A-Game!!
While this hunt is already action packed, there may be a few open days to enjoy additional plains game hunts, especially some of the endemic species. Rufunsa GMA is well stocked and has a history of producing excellent trophies. Some of the favorites:
