Hunting Regulations in Tanzania

• You can only hunt animals which fall under your specific license.
• Animals cannot be hunted from a vehicle or chased.
• Hunting is only allowed during daylight hours.
• Females, young or immature animals may not be hunted.
• Only lions over the age of 6 years may be hunted.

Minimum Rifle Calibers on the Dangerous Game Hunting Safari

The legal requirement when hunting big game in Tanzania is a .375 caliber. For Cape Buffalo, larger calibers such as a .404, 416, 458, 458 Lott, or any quality double rifle from .470 and up is recommended.

Handgun hunting is strictly forbidden. Hunting dangerous game with a bow or crossbow is forbidden but they can be used on an African plains game hunt. Just a heads up that the hunting permits are also significantly more expensive for bow or cross bow hunting than a rifle hunting license.

Hunting Season in Tanzania

Tanzania’s hunting season is regulated from 1^st July to 31^st December. These months constated the “dry season,” but the months of November and December may experience so rainfall.

The reality is that there is no “bad” time to hunt in Tanzania, it is a privilege!!!

Hunters must land at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha. Dar es Salaam is the safari gateway into Tanzania and is the largest city in East Africa by population, and the 6^th largest in Africa.

Dar es Salaam is safe and is also the financial, commercial, and cultural capital of Tanzania. Depending on your arrival time, you may need to overnight in the city before departing for the hunting grounds.

There are various options available for traveling to the Lunda Nkwambi GCA Hunting Block:

• Book a Charter Flight that will take you straight to Lunda. The charter flight, depending on the weather conditions, can take between 4 and 5 hours. Speak to Lazaro, who will assist in making the necessary arrangements. Costs are approximately US$5000 return.
• Enjoy a domestic flight on Precision Air, from Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport to Dodoma. A flight from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma will cost approximately US$300 return and take around 1h 15 min. A flight from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Dodoma will cost approximately US$150 return, and will take about 1hr 30 min. 
• Upon your arrival in Dodoma, you will journey about 3 1/2 hours by road to reach the hunting grounds.
