Game Hunting Safaris LLC is a U.S.-based hunting company founded by South African hunters Pierre and Tamlyn van Wyk.
Operating from Texas, we help international hunters find, compare and book African hunting safaris with established outfitters across the continent. That may mean helping a first-time hunter choose between several South African plains-game safaris, finding the right area for a particular Cape buffalo, or putting together a more specialised dangerous-game hunt elsewhere in Africa.
We grew up in South Africa and have spent much of our lives hunting and travelling in Africa. We've also sat on the other side of the table as hunting clients, choosing outfitters, travelling with rifles, following tracks and learning that what looks straightforward when planning an African hunt isn't always quite as simple once you get there.
That experience is a large part of why Game Hunting Safaris exists.
Game Hunting Safaris gives hunters one place to compare hunting opportunities from outfitters operating across Africa.
Rather than contacting multiple outfitters individually and trying to compare different hunting areas, packages, trophy expectations and prices, hunters can use GHS to explore their options and then talk to us about what they're actually looking for.
Our role doesn't end when you find a hunt.
We help bring the hunter and outfitter together, assist with communication during the booking process and provide secure processing of the initial deposit through Game Hunting Safaris LLC.
The safari itself is conducted by the licensed outfitter and professional hunter responsible for that particular hunt. Our job is to help you get to the right one in the first place and make sure you understand what you're booking.
Pierre grew up in South Africa's Eastern Cape, spending much of his childhood on friends' farms and hunting properties where being outdoors and around wildlife was simply part of life.
He has hunted for more than 30 years and is particularly passionate about African dangerous game. His hunting experience includes Cape buffalo, elephant, lion, hippo and crocodile, along with numerous plains-game and specialty species across Africa.
Cape buffalo remains a particular favourite, and Pierre is rarely far from his .500 Nitro Express when dangerous game is involved.
Today, much of that experience goes into helping GHS clients work through the same decisions hunters face when planning an African safari, choosing the right country, hunting area, outfitter and hunt for what they actually want to experience.
Tamlyn has been hunting for more than 20 years, with experience ranging from African plains game to dangerous game including Cape buffalo, lion, hippo and Nile crocodile.
One of her most memorable hunts was a Cape buffalo in Limpopo, South Africa, which scored 65 points under the Rowland Ward measurement system and 110 7/8 SCI. She has also hunted a 15.1-foot Nile crocodile in Mozambique, which, much to Pierre's annoyance, was bigger than his. A little competition between husband and wife never hurts.
Her hunts have been featured in publications including Wild & Jag and African Expedition Magazine in the United States.
Tamlyn is also a qualified professional hunter in South Africa, although today her role is with Game Hunting Safaris rather than guiding clients in the field.

Book Your Hunt
We don't believe a hunting outfitter should be recommended simply because he has a good website, impressive trophy photographs or an attractive safari package.
Before we work with an outfitter, we want to understand who will actually be looking after our hunters and what they can realistically expect when they arrive.
That means looking beyond the advertised hunt. We want to know about the hunting areas, the professional hunters, the game available, realistic trophy expectations, accommodation, equipment and vehicles, pricing and, importantly, how the outfitter communicates with his clients.
First-hand knowledge matters too. We've hunted with outfitters represented on Game Hunting Safaris, visited hunting areas and camps, and built relationships within the African hunting industry over many years.
But we won't pretend we've personally hunted every property or safari advertised on GHS. Where we haven't, we rely on the information available to us, our knowledge of the industry and the experience of hunters and hunting professionals we trust when deciding who we're comfortable working with.
Ultimately, we're looking for something fairly simple:
Would we be comfortable booking the hunt ourselves or sending one of our own hunting friends there?
If the answer is no, we wouldn't recommend that outfitter to a GHS client.
The hunts and destinations featured on Game Hunting Safaris aren't simply places we've read about or added to a website.
Over the years, we've hunted extensively across southern Africa, from plains game to Cape buffalo, elephant, lion, hippo and crocodile. We've stayed in hunting camps, hunted with different professional hunters and experienced many of the same decisions, long days and occasional surprises our clients encounter on safari.
We still hunt Africa ourselves, and that first-hand experience matters when we're helping another hunter plan his own trip.
