When it comes to Africa plains game species, the zebra remains a popular choice. Hartmann’s mountain zebra is a species found in Namibia, and a small section of Angola, and has recently been reintroduced to some of South Africa’s national parks and reserves. According to the IUCN, their status is listed as “vulnerable,” but they are still available on your African hunting adventures.
Hartmann’s mountain zebra is mainly found in western Namibia, on the fringe of the Namib desert, then moving towards the interior region. They prefer a rocky, mountainous habitat, along with flood plains close by. Access to sufficient drinking water is a must for these agile Africa plains game animals.
When hunting in Africa, look for small herds of 7-12 members, consisting of a male and several females. If conditions are good in terms of grazing and water, these groups can become larger, reaching between 30-40 members.
The gestation period for the Hartmann’s mountain zebra is 360 days, with one foal being born.
In terms of predators, apart from man on his game hunting safari, hyenas and lions are top of the list. The zebra does use its amazing striped coat to blend in and camouflage itself from predators. It is also extremely agile and able to flee across rocky and treacherous mountainous terrain to escape predators.
It will flee from large predators but when their young are targeted, the zebra will fight back, with a sharp bite and powerful kick, they are often successful in scaring predators away.

The Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra Takes you through mountainous regions in Namibia as you enjoy this Africa plains game hunting adventure.
When enjoying your game hunting adventure targeting this beautiful Africa plains game species, don’t be surprised if you have a touch of difficulty spotting them, as their stripes assist them in blending in with grasses and bush. The Hartmann’s mountain zebra is larger than the Cape zebra, with an adult male weighing around 550-660 pounds, and standing 59 inches at the shoulder. Amazingly enough, each zebra’s stripes form a unique pattern across its body. The animal’s stripes continue down their legs, while their muzzle’s tip is black, slowly blending into an orange-brown hue as you move upwards. The zebra’s mane runs from the top of its head to its withers, and it has a dewlap.
Zebras, with their excellent eyesight, are always on the lookout for predators, whether it be lions, hyenas, or man on his game hunting safari. Be prepared to take this traditional hunting safari as a walk and stalk, with a relaxed and calm energy and approach on this hunting adventure.
Zebras are renowned for their keen eyesight and will flee in the event of any perceived danger during your African hunt, so be prepared and be patient. The reward? An amazing game hunting trophy to add to your collection. Its hide is beautiful, and it makes a truly amazing rug.
Zebras remain a sought-after African plains game species and game hunting trophy. They are very tough creatures, and this should be taken into account when considering a rifle. A medium to large caliber rifle, with which you can shoot accurately and with which you are comfortable will do the trick. Riles that are popular on a zebra African hunt include 30 caliber rifles with a minimum bullet weight of 150 grain, or higher velocity rifles like the 7mm or 300 win-mag. A .375 can also work well to target these African plains game gems.
