For hunters looking for a premier East Africa Sitatunga hunting experience, the Kafu River Basin is a prime hunting location. Situated in central Uganda, the region is renowned for its rich, dense vegetation, offering birds and wildlife the perfect habitat in which to live and thrive. Habitats in the region include wetlands, wooded savannas, and river forests, as well as large papyrus swamps. The landscape on this hunting concession is dominated by papyrus swamps and dense bush thickets, creating ideal conditions for this elusive antelope to thrive.
Here, Sitatunga are hunted throughout the year, with the average horn length harvested on the concession being 25 inches, with larger specimens of up to 31.5 inches hunted there.
The Aswa-Lolim concession comprises 45,000 hectares, sharing a 68-mile-long border with Murchison Falls National Park to the south and approximately 48 miles along the Nile River to the west. The concession is characterized by rolling grassy hills adorned with palm trees, together with small valleys, creeks, and light forests. Closer to the Nile River, dense forests and expansive papyrus swamps are found.
Hunts in Aswa-Lolim are available from January to the end of April/May, while Sitatunga hunting is available throughout the year.
Research your chosen game hunting trophies and know their anatomy well to ensure accurate shot placement
Ensure that your rifle selection for your Uganda hunting safari will suffice for your chosen trophies. Use a .270 to a .308 for African plains game, with a minimum of a .375 for dangerous game.
Walk-and-stalk is a common hunting method used in Uganda and requires the hunter to cover long distances, with tracking and hunting from blinds also utilized.
Although hunting in Uganda is available throughout the year, the best time to enjoy a hunting safari is during the dry seasons (December to April and then again from June to October).
When hunting in Africa, sticks are often used. Practice the use of shooting sticks as many shots will be taken while standing in rough, rugged, and uneven terrain.
African plains game hunting in Uganda involves a great deal of walking and hiking. Good physical fitness will enhance the overall hunting expedition.
With a great deal of walking comes the need for comfortable, waterproof boots. Ensure that your footwear is both practical and well-worn, as the last thing you need is blisters or ill-fitting boots causing havoc on your safari.

No airlines fly directly from the United States of America to Uganda. There is at least one stop involved on the journey, with popular airlines flying into the country, including Emirates, Qatar Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines.
Entebbe International Airport is the hub for both domestic and international flights. The airport is situated in Entebbe, about 20 miles from the country’s capital city, Kampala.
