Please note:
· The packing, crating, and documenting for the export of trophies is handled by the local taxidermist at a cost of around US$2,200. They must be paid directly. All trophies in Ethiopia are handled through a government-controlled taxidermist.
· Each game hunting area requires a different game scout
· Loss of property is at the client’s own cost
· Each change of camp requires going through Addis Ababa, during which a one-night stay will be required at the client’s own cost
· Insurance is mandatory
This Mountain Nyala hunt is located in Ethiopia’s Oromia region, spanning from the Aruse mountain range to the Bale Mountains. The altitude of the hunts range from 8,202 – 11,482 feet, the perfect altitude to target this shy and elusive antelope.
Depending on where in the area the hunt will take place, it will be reached by:
• 4-hour drive followed by a 1–2-hour walk OR
• 6-hour drive followed by a 2-3-hour walk OR
• 6-hour drive followed by an hour’s walk or horse ride
· License fees for all species must be purchased in advance and are non-refundable
· Trophy fees are payable to the outfitter 60 days before the commencement of the hunt
· All licenses are subject to Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA) quotas
· Game license fees are at the discretion of the Ethiopian Authorities, and they are subject to change without notice. No responsibility is accepted in the case of any changes.
· Double the price of the trophy fee must be paid if a female or undersized animal is shot.
· In the case of an animal wounded and not recovered, the license is considered filled.
· All fees are quoted in US Dollars.
Weather conditions in the mountains can be quite challenging, ranging from 28-91°F. Fog and sudden downpours are the order of the day, resulting in hunters needing to pack accordingly. It is always good to layer clothing, taking off what is needed as necessary.
Suggested clothing includes:
· Thick Jackets, beanies, and gloves for colder conditions
· Rain jacket or rain gear
· Light, easy dry clothing for daytime, warmer conditions
· Sunblock and a wide-brimmed hat
· 2 x pairs waterproof boots

· These antelopes are known for being particularly wary, and their cautious behavior makes them a challenge to hunt.
· Their preferred habitat of dense forests, along with their ability to move swiftly across rugged and difficult terrain, makes hunting and stalking them a testing adventure. Hunting the Mountain Nyala happens in Ethiopia’s highlands, at altitudes of between 9,000-14,000 feet, usually in the Bale and Ahmar Mountains.
· The terrain there is rugged, steep, rocky, and often slippery with treacherous slopes, dense forest cover, and varying weather conditions, including fog and sudden downpours, which add layers of difficulty to the hunting safari.
· The high altitudes in which the hunt takes place mean thinner air and make physical exertion more challenging. Hunters need to be physically fit and prepared to walk and hiking long distances over difficult terrain.
· Hunts often last more than 15 days, simply due to the difficulty of the conditions, as well as the sheer elusiveness of the prized trophy.
Accommodation during your hunting safari is quite basic, but comfortable, ticking all the boxes needed for a comfortable and relaxing time. Depending on where the hunt takes place, the mountain camp or lodge will comprise traditional straw huts with toilets, along with a main dining area and lodge.
Good food, combined with good company, is the order of the day after a day’s hunting.
If needed, fly camps will also be used.
· Traveling to Ethiopia is quite simple, with Ethiopian Airlines offering direct flights from various cities within the United States, including Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, and Minneapolis, among others.
· Direct flights from cities in the US to Addis Ababa take between 12-15 hours, depending on the departure city.
· Ethiopian Airlines offers direct flights from various European cities, including Rome, Frankfurt, and Paris.
· Most travelers from European countries, as well as the United States, require a visa for Ethiopia.
· An easy option for travelers is to make use of Ethiopia’s e-Visa service, which is available before departure
· The passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months after entering the country.
· The cost for a single-entry 30-day tourist visa is US$62.
· Visitors need to enter through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
· To enter Ethiopia, proof of a Yellow Fever Vaccination is required, should you arrive from a high-risk country or transit through an airport of a high-risk country.
