This safari gives you the choice of pursuing either a Spotted Hyena or Brown Hyena. Spotted Hyena are fully exportable to the USA, while Brown Hyena are not exportable to the USA, so hunters should consider their intended trophy arrangements when selecting their species.
Hyena hunting in Namibia is strictly controlled and tags are limited. They are not available from every Namibian outfitter. This makes an opportunity to pursue either species particularly appealing to hunters looking for a specialized African predator experience. These species provide a different hunting opportunity alongside the primary hyena hunt and allow hunters to pursue two of Namibia's distinctive endemic antelope during their time in the country. Hyena hunting is conducted after dark and can involve baiting, scent trails and temporary blinds positioned where hyenas are expected to approach. FoxPro callers can also be used, as hyenas are responsive to distress calls.
Spotted Hyenas generally live in clans and are more dominant, while Brown Hyenas are largely solitary. Their different behaviour adds another dimension to the hunt. A Spotted Hyena may announce its presence with its distinctive calls, while a Brown Hyena can approach much more quietly, making patience and alertness essential.

The cooler months from late April through August are considered the best period for a hyena hunt in Namibia. While Namibia's hunting season runs from 1 February through 30 November, the cooler conditions make extended hunting more comfortable.
Your safari begins at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, where Hugo or a member of his team will meet you and assist with any firearm permit requirements. The transfer to the hunting lodge and hunting area takes approximately two hours by road, meaning there is no need for a domestic charter flight before the hunt begins.
Several additional species can be added to the safari, subject to availability. These include Cheetah, Black-backed Jackal, Genet, Honey Badger and Serval.
Cheetah hunts are opportunistic and are not guaranteed because these predators cover large territories.
A hyena hunt after dark is unlike a conventional plains game safari. The long hours, silence and uncertainty of the night create a completely different hunting experience, while the opportunity to add Black-faced Impala and Damara Dik-dik gives hunters another reason to make the most of their time in Namibia.
