    North West Hunting Grounds

The hunting grounds in the North West province depict the classic South African hunting environment. The region is characterized by open grassy plains, thorny shrubs, and trees, and is generally quite flat, apart from some scattered hills and rocky outcrops.

    Accomodation and Lodging

Your hunting accommodation is near Zeerust, in the North West province’s Syferfontein region. This beautiful region was selected because of its proximity to the various concessions used during the plains game hunt.

The lodge on this safari sleeps up to 10 people in 5 rooms. Two rooms include en-suite bathrooms, while the remaining three share bathroom facilities. The lodge is fully equipped with running water and electricity and is supported by a backup generator to ensure uninterrupted comfort during power outages.

Hunters can sit back and relax, enjoy blissful evenings under African skies, where hearty meals and engaging conversations are the order of the day.

Shot Placement Tips for African Plains Game

    • Do your homework and know the anatomy of the species you are hunting
    • Listen to your PH, they have local knowledge and experience with these species and are best to advise on the situation on the ground
    • When animals are quartering (angled toward or away from you), adjust your aim to compensate, placing the shot just in front or behind the shoulder to ensure a vital hit
    • When it comes to Impala and Blesbok trophies, the heart/lung shot remains the optimum zone, and the bullet should travel through the chest cavity for maximum effect
    • For Warthog trophies, aim about a third of the way up the shoulder for the best chance to strike the heart/lung area
    • The Zebra’s vital organs sit slightly more forward than traditional African plains game make allowance for this and aim slightly more forward on the shoulder
    • ·Headshots are generally not recommended unless for meat harvesting and can be risky if not accurate

    Rifles & Calibers

    • Even though Warthogs are not exceptionally large, these hunts require a powerful cartridge. A 12 X 50 scope can be fitted to anything from a .243 to a 30.06. A .308 is also a good option using premium-grade ammunition, while a .375 shooting 300-grain solids will also get the job done.
    • The best caliber for a Blesbok hunt ranges from a .243 to any of the .30 calibers fitted with a high-quality scope. 130 to 150-grain bullets work well. Larger calibers such as a .375 or even a .458 can be used, if they are loaded with monolithic or solid tip.
    • If you do not want to spend the entire day tracking a wounded Impala, a 7mm to the 30 caliber will suffice
    • Popular rifles for Zebra hunting include 30 caliber rifles with a minimum bullet weight of 150 grain, or the higher velocity rifles like the 7mm or 300 Win-Mag. A .375 can also work well.
