    About The Hunting Ground

Theses large private hunting grounds provide the perfect backdrop for springbok hunting in South Africa, with the region having a history of producing magnificent trophies. The concession combines open grasslands with the surrounding Suurberg mountain landscape, creating a varied hunting environment and excellent opportunities for long-range observation and carefully planned spot-and-stalk hunts. The open terrain allows hunters to glass large areas for Springbok, while the changing elevations and natural features of the Eastern Cape add variety to the daily hunting experience. Four-by-four vehicles may be used to cover more ground across the property before a suitable trophy is selected and the final stalk is planned on foot. This concession has some of the best springbok hunting in South Africa.

    A Hassle-Free Springbok Hunting Safari

Just when you thought it could not get better, this Springbok hunting safari includes the use of two rifles. Hunters can choose between the outfitter’s .270 and .300 Win Mag, or make use of both during the safari. No import permits, paperwork or additional rifle costs are required when using the outfitter’s rifles.

Both rifles offer a flat trajectory and plenty of performance for the longer shots often encountered across the open plains of the Eastern Cape.

The hunting concession has a history of producing magnificent Springbok trophies, and additional trophies can be added to the safari for the applicable trophy fees.

    The African Outfitter

Outfitter “Beans” heads up the hunting and brings more than 30 years of experience in both plains game and dangerous game hunting. His experience is extensive, and he is supported by two professional hunters.

Werner has a passion for big game and waterfowl hunting, while Hanlie specializes in night safaris for species such as Black-backed Jackal, Porcupine, Caracal, Genets and Civets.

Together, the team brings broad experience across South African hunting and is well qualified to deliver a well-organized African hunting experience.

Traveling to the Eastern Cape Hunting Grounds

International hunters can enter South Africa through Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airport.

For hunters planning African hunting trips, a short domestic flight from either city connects with Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), where a member of the team will meet hunters at domestic arrivals and begin the road transfer to the hunting lodge.

    Hunting Season in South Africa

Specialty and plains game hunts can take place throughout the year when hunting in South Africa. The cooler, drier months from April through October are generally preferred, with more comfortable temperatures and reduced grass and vegetation making it easier to spot game.

    Springbok Hunting Methods

Early morning after sunrise and the late afternoon are prime periods for Springbok hunting in South Africa, when conditions are cooler and game is more active. Because the Eastern Cape concession is extensive, four-by-four vehicles may be used to cover more ground and locate suitable animals before the hunter and professional hunter plan a stalk on foot.

Once a suitable trophy has been identified, careful use of the terrain and vegetation is essential to close the distance. The varied Eastern Cape terrain can make some shots more challenging, particularly where longer shooting distances are involved.

Shot placement is critical when pursuing a trophy Springbok. Hunters should understand the fundamentals of shot placement for medium antelope, particularly when longer shots are involved.

    Additional Hunting Opportunities

The area is also well known for Kudu hunts, with excellent trophies harvested from the region. Vaal Rhebuck hunting is another popular option, and additional antelope species can be added to the safari for an additional trophy fee.

    A Springbok Hunt to Remember

Hunting all four Springbok color variants on one safari makes this a distinctive Eastern Cape hunting experience and provides hunters with the opportunity to achieve the highly sought-after Springbok “Grand Slam.” Combined with the beautiful Suurberg scenery, comfortable lodge accommodation, experienced hunting team and the convenience of outfitter-provided rifles, this US$6,800 seven-night package offers an appealing South African plains game hunting experience.
