Robert Ruark Famously said: He looked at me like he hated my guts, as if I had despoiled his fiancé, murdered his mother and burned down his house. I never saw such malevolence in the eyes of any animal, before or since.

Nothing can quite compare to a Cape Buffalo hunt in the magnificent bushveld of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, of course in the "thick stuff".

Traveling for the Dangerous Game Hunting Safari

International hunters can enter South Africa making use of two options, namely Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, or landing in Cape Town International Airport. Both of these cities offer incredible additional tourist activities which are recommended. Cap[e Town, voted the most beautiful city on the world, offering the famous Table Mountain, wine routes and fine dining. Johannesburg, is the gateway to Sun City and of course the Kruger National Park.

A short domestic flight will need to be taken from either Cape Town or Johannesburg to reach the city of Port Elizabeth, now known as Gqeberha. Peter, or one of his team will meet you at domestic arrivals to commence the road transfer to the hunting lodge.

The African Outfitter

"Beans," Peter's partner is in charge of hunting and brings more than 30 years’ experience, both plains game and dangerous game hunting. Beans experience is unparalleled. Beans is backed up by two awesome professional hunters, namely Werner, with a passion for big game and waterfowl hunting, and Hanlie who loves the night safaris for critters such as Black Backed Jackal, Porcupine, Caracal, Genets and Civets. This team is exceptionally well qualified and know how to deliver a dream African hunt.

Vaal Rhebuck Hunting: Optional Extra

On this Cape Buffalo hunt, a Vaal Rhebuck can be added to the safari. These antelope get enormous in these mountains and Vaal Rhebuck hunting is a unique experience. If a Rhebuck is on your list, the Eastern Cape is the destination of choice.

This Vaal Rhebuck hunt is considered one the most challenging plains game hunts in South Africa. Trophy Vaal Rhebuck habitat is on the high ground. You will need to be prepared to walk a few miles, plus do some climbing up the mountainous slopes to trophy hunt Vaal Rhebuck.

Shots are often taken at long range, more than three hundred yards. Vaal Rhebuck hunting takes patience, and a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.

The hunting areas in the Eastern Cape are of the highest quality and Vaal Rhebuck hunts in this location are unrivaled. Few hunters have a Vaal Rhebuck in their trophy rooms and this unique antelope can be added to the safari for a trophy fee of US$ 1950.

Hunting Season in South Africa

As South Africa is not regulated by a specific hunting season, dangerous game hunts can take place all year around. The best time to hunt in South Africa will be during the cooler months, from April until October. Temperatures are too hot in the summer months, with increased tick and insect activity.

The Cape Buffalo

With Nicknames Such as the “Widow maker” and “Black Death,” The Buffalo Remains a Prized Trophy and one of the most popular African hunts.

Ask any hunter which animal they rate as the most dangerous to hunt in Africa, and many will answer the Cape buffalo. When it comes to big game hunting, these members of the African Big 5 and Dangerous 7 are considered extremely savage and menacing. This is due to their size, aggressive nature, and intimidating horns, basically Buffalo would like nothing better than to just kill the hunter.

Cape Buffalo are exceptionally tough opponents and are NEVER to be underestimated, it is always a "dead Buffalo" that will kill you.

Knowledge of Cape Buffalo shot placement could mean the difference between life and death, these beasts are danger personified.

CAPE BUFFALO

Cape Buffalo Hunting: Method

The hunting party will head out shortly after sun rise and search for fresh tracks and Buffalo activity. Once tracks have been identified, the hunt will be on to track down the trophy Cape Buffalo. Maybe a tank of a Buffalo with a huge spread, or a broken horn or as on many hunters wish list, a "scrum cap".

This hunt will be “up close and personal”, and you can expect shots to be fired at close distance. This is real Cape Buffalo hunting.
