    About The Hunting Ground

The concession features classic Waterberg bushveld, with a mixture of rolling hills, rocky ridges, valleys and more open plains. Natural drainage lines and riverine areas provide thicker cover and important water sources, while the varied elevation creates numerous glassing points for locating game. This combination of open and wooded terrain makes for a traditional walk-and-stalk hunt, with hunters able to use the ridges, valleys and natural cover to approach game.

    The Private Reserve

This privately owned reserve is situated within the world-renowned Waterberg Biosphere and provides an exceptional backdrop for plains game hunting in South Africa. The area is particularly sought after for kudu hunts and Cape eland hunts, while Cape buffalo and species such as klipspringer are also found in the region.

The reserve combines varied bushveld terrain with rivers and abundant water, supporting a wide range of wildlife and bird species, including fish eagles and kingfishers. Its location close to Mokolo Dam also provides the opportunity for chartered largemouth black bass fishing.

    Plains Game Hunting in Limpopo

Limpopo is widely regarded as the plains game capital of Africa and is one of the continent's most sought-after destinations for hunters pursuing a wide variety of African game. The province has an extensive network of private hunting properties, with diverse habitat, established game management and a long history of producing quality plains game trophies.

This safari focuses on the classic South African walk-and-stalk experience. Ridges are glassed during the cooler early-morning and late-afternoon hours, when game is more active. Once suitable quarry is located, the hunter and Professional Hunter begin the stalk.

As the private ranch is extensive, 4x4 vehicles may be used to cover additional ground before beginning the final approach.

    Tips when Plains Game Hunting

    • Hunt early and late in the day when temperatures are cooler and game movement increases.
    • Spend time glassing ridges, open areas and likely feeding grounds before moving.
    • Use the terrain and available cover to your advantage during the stalk.
    • Be prepared for changing distances and shooting positions as different species present opportunities.
    • Allow your Professional Hunter to guide the stalk and shot selection based on the terrain and animal's position.
    • Take advantage of the quieter midday period to rest, prepare for the afternoon hunt and review the day's hunting strategy.

    Bushpig Hunting

Bushpig hunting in South Africa is conducted at night over bait using modern night-vision optics and thermal imaging.

Selected areas are pre-baited and monitored with trail cameras to establish bushpig activity. Once the bait is regularly being visited, the hunter waits from a blind.

Bushpigs are nocturnal and can travel considerable distances during the night, making this a patient and challenging hunting experience. On rare occasions, they may also be encountered during daylight while feeding on old animal carcasses or in animal "bone yard" areas.

    Additional Trophy Species

Additional animals can be hunted during the safari for trophy fees only. See the drop-down menu for pricing or contact Game Hunting Safaris for an updated list.

    South African Hunting Season

Plains game and specialty hunts can take place throughout the year, with ranch owners able to apply for P3 exemption permits where required.

The cooler months from April through October are generally the most comfortable for hunting. Summer temperatures in Limpopo can exceed 104°F, and periods of rain can continue for several days.

Traveling to the Limpopo Hunting Concession

The safari begins at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where you will be met by Don, your African outfitter. The transfer to the lodge takes approximately three hours on national tar roads that are in good condition. The journey provides a scenic introduction to the Limpopo bushveld.

    Hunting in Limpopo

Limpopo offers a combination of bushveld, valleys, plains and mountain ranges, including the Waterberg and Soutpansberg. Its extensive private hunting properties and varied habitats make it a popular destination for hunters looking for a traditional African hunting trip.
