Hunters will arrive through Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. From Dar es Salaam, there are several ways to reach the Selous concession depending on travel preference and budget.
The most direct option is a charter flight into the hunting area. Alternatively, hunters can make use of an 8-hour road transfer from Dar es Salaam to camp. Another popular option is to take the train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, which takes approximately 1.5 hours, followed by a shorter 3-hour road transfer into the concession.
Final travel arrangements and transfer options can be coordinated with Hasheem and his team before the safari.
Before travelling to Tanzania, hunters should check the latest health and vaccination requirements with their doctor or travel clinic. Yellow fever vaccination is only required if you are arriving from, or have transited for more than 12 hours through, a country with a yellow fever risk. It is generally not required when travelling directly from the US or Europe.
You should also be up to date with your routine vaccinations. Your doctor may recommend additional vaccines such as rabies, meningitis, polio, Tdap, typhoid, and hepatitis A and B, depending on your route, health history, and travel plans.

When it comes to dangerous game hunts, accuracy and good shot placement are non-negotiable. Hunters should be comfortable with their rifle before arriving in camp and should always follow the PH’s instruction in the field. For elephant, lion, and leopard, a suitable rifle and proper bullet choice matter. A .375 is the minimum legal caliber for dangerous game in Tanzania, while larger calibers such as .416, .458, or similar are also commonly used.
• Hunt with an experienced PH who is knowledgeable about the area, species, and conditions.
• Listen to your PH and follow their instructions implicitly. It is their job to get you out of there in one piece, with your chosen trophy.
• Ensure that you have done your homework and know the anatomy of the animal you are targeting, to ensure accurate and correct shot placement.
• The minimum caliber rifle for dangerous game hunting in Tanzania is a .375. Ensure that your rifle meets or exceeds this.
• Don’t be in a rush; take your time to get the perfect shot in.
• After that perfect shot, be ready for a follow-up shot or two in quick succession.
• Use vegetation to your advantage to remain undetected while approaching the animal downwind.
• Always remain alert and ready; the bush – and its inhabitants – wait for nobody.
For hunters comparing options, this is not a quick weekend hunt. It is a full leopard hunting safari in proper Selous country, with enough time built in for bait activity, tracks, weather, and all the small details that can make or break a hunt.
