    About The Hunting Ground

Situated in South Eastern Tanzania, the Selous Reserve is one of the largest protected areas in Tanzania and allows a hunter an authentic hunting safari in Tanzania, as human interference within the reserve is minimal. One of the region’s latest rivers is the Rufiji River that runs through the game reserve, drawing both predators and prey to the area. The landscape varies from Miombo–type woodland and dense forest to bush, open plains, and even rocky outcrops. The Selous is renowned for its dangerous game, including big cats, Elephants, Buffalo, Hippo and Crocodile, while prized plains game trophies such as the Lichtenstein wildebeest, Greater Kudu, Chobe Bushbuck, and Livingstone Eland are available to hunt.

A 28-day dangerous game safari in Tanzania is not simply another African hunting trip, it is a full-scale wilderness expedition through some of the largest and wildest hunting concessions remaining in Africa. Designed for serious American and international hunters seeking complete immersion in the African bush, this safari combines exceptional dangerous game hunts with rare East African species, remote safari camps, and the freedom to hunt across multiple concessions within Tanzania’s legendary Selous ecosystem.

Few destinations still offer the scale and authenticity found when hunting in Tanzania, where vast unfenced concessions, low hunting pressure, and true free-range conditions create one of Africa’s most respected safari destinations. Over the course of 28 unforgettable days, hunters may pursue species ranging from Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo, and Nile Crocodile to sought-after East African plains game hunts including Sable, Roan, Lesser Kudu, and Gerenuk.

This is not a fixed-package safari built around a single species. It is a flexible, deep-bush hunting experience where the safari evolves over time, allowing hunters to adapt their trophy list and hunting strategy as opportunities present themselves across the concession. Combined with traditional tented safari camps, experienced professional hunters, and the untamed beauty of the Selous, this safari delivers the type of old Africa hunting experience that has become increasingly rare elsewhere on the continent.

28-Day East African Dangerous Game Expedition — US$ 160,000 (Excluding Trophy Fees)

    1 x Hunter accompanied by 1 x Professional Hunter

Additional observers are welcome at US$ 500 per person per day.

For hunters wishing to share the experience, a two-hunter option is available, allowing each hunter to enjoy this exclusive Tanzania dangerous game safari at US$ 70,000 per person (excluding trophy fees).

    Hunting in Tanzania

Tanzania remains one of the last places in Africa where hunters can still experience authentic dangerous game hunts on a truly massive scale. Large unfenced concessions, extremely low hunting pressure, and remote wilderness areas combine to create the kind of old East African safari atmosphere that has disappeared from many other destinations.

From the miombo woodlands and river systems of the Selous to the open savannas and wetlands that support enormous concentrations of wildlife, hunting in Tanzania offers exceptional diversity for serious safari hunters. Alongside world-class Cape Buffalo hunts, hunters may also pursue sought-after East African species such as Sable, Roan, Lesser Kudu, and Gerenuk, all while hunting in free-range conditions under strict quota systems designed to protect wildlife populations for future generations.

    The Selous Hunting Concession

This 28-day safari takes place in the legendary Selous region of south-eastern Tanzania, one of Africa’s most respected wilderness hunting destinations. Renowned for its exceptional dangerous game populations and vast untamed landscapes, the region supports species such as Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo, Nile Crocodile, Lion, and Leopard across enormous free-range hunting concessions.

The diverse terrain includes dense miombo woodland, open floodplains, river systems, wetlands, and thick bushveld that create ideal habitat for both dangerous game and East African plains game species. The sheer scale, remoteness, and biodiversity of the Selous make it one of the most authentic safari hunting environments remaining anywhere in Africa.

    Multiple Hunting Concessions Available

While this exclusive 28-day safari is quoted on one concession within the Selous ecosystem, hunters also have the option of accessing the outfitter’s additional Tanzanian concessions during the safari should they wish to expand hunting opportunities or target different species and terrain types. The flexibility to move between concessions allows hunters to experience a broader range of habitats, wildlife densities, and hunting conditions throughout the course of this extended East African safari.

Please note that concession changes, additional travel, and related logistics are not included in the advertised package price.

    The Outfitter hosting the Safari

Shahbeck and his experienced Tanzanian team specialize in delivering authentic East African hunting safaris focused on professionalism, conservation, and true wilderness hunting experiences. With a deep respect for Africa’s wildlife and natural habitats, the team places strong emphasis on ethical hunting practices, sustainable safari management, and providing hunters with the type of traditional safari atmosphere that has become increasingly rare across Africa.

Operating multiple concessions within Tanzania, the outfitter offers hunters the unique flexibility of accessing different hunting areas, terrain types, and species distributions during the course of an extended safari. Combined with experienced professional hunters, knowledgeable camp staff, and well-run safari camps, this creates a highly personalized and immersive dangerous game hunting experience in some of Tanzania’s most remote wilderness regions.

    Trophies Available for Hunting

One of the major advantages of an extended Tanzania safari of this nature is the flexibility it offers hunters when selecting trophies throughout the course of the hunt. Rather than focusing on a single species, hunters are able to adapt the safari as opportunities present themselves across the concession, creating a true East African hunting experience built around both dangerous game and unique regional plains game species.

Depending on quota availability and the concession being hunted, this safari may include opportunities for exceptional elephant hunts, traditional leopard hunting safaris, and classic lion hunts, together with Cape Buffalo, Hippo, Nile Crocodile, and a wide variety of East African plains game species.

To view the full list of available species and associated trophy fees, please refer to the “Additional Animals” dropdown menu below.

Who This Safari Is Best Suited For

This extended Tanzania safari is ideally suited to experienced hunters seeking a traditional East African dangerous game expedition rather than a short, single-species safari. With 28 days in remote wilderness concessions, multiple dangerous game opportunities, and the flexibility to adapt the hunt as the safari unfolds, this experience appeals to hunters looking for complete immersion in Africa’s bushveld and safari culture.

It is particularly well suited to returning African hunters, dangerous game enthusiasts, and hunters wanting to combine multiple trophy species into one authentic free-range safari experience.

    Traveling to the Selous

American and international hunters should arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam before continuing onward to the Selous region. From Dar es Salaam, hunters may either take a charter flight directly to the concession airstrip, located approximately 30 minutes from camp, or travel by road to the hunting area, with the transfer taking roughly 15 hours depending on conditions.

For hunters seeking to maximize hunting time and minimize travel fatigue during this extended safari, charter flights are generally the preferred option. Please note that both charter flights and road transfers are excluded from the advertised safari price.

    Hunting Accommodations in Tanzania

Accommodation during this exclusive Tanzania safari is provided in traditional East African tented camps set along the riverbank within the Selous wilderness. Spacious luxury safari tents offer comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, and modern amenities while still maintaining the authentic atmosphere of a classic African hunting safari.

Positioned to take full advantage of the surrounding wilderness and river views, the camp regularly attracts passing wildlife throughout the day, creating an immersive bush experience from the moment hunters arrive in camp. Evenings are typically spent around the sandy boma and thatched entertainment areas, enjoying sundowners, sharing stories from the day’s hunt, and planning the following day’s safari activities beneath the African night sky.

Preparing for a Multi-Species Safari in Tanzania

On an extended dangerous game safari such as this, preparation plays a major role in the overall hunting experience. With opportunities to pursue a wide variety of dangerous game and East African plains game species throughout the safari, hunters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with proper shot placement for hunting game in Africa before arriving in Tanzania, particularly when hunting large and potentially dangerous species in free-range conditions.

Why This Tanzania Safari Stands Apart

Few hunting destinations still offer the scale, freedom, and authenticity found on a long-duration safari in Tanzania’s wilderness concessions. Over the course of 28 days, hunters experience vast unfenced landscapes, exceptionally low hunting pressure, traditional tented safari camps, and the opportunity to pursue some of Africa’s most respected dangerous game species in truly wild country.

Beyond the hunting itself, safaris of this nature continue to play an important role in wildlife conservation, anti-poaching initiatives, and local community support throughout Tanzania’s remote hunting areas. Revenue generated from hunting safaris directly contributes toward protecting wildlife habitats while supporting employment and infrastructure within surrounding communities.

For hunters seeking more than simply a trophy, for those looking for a genuine East African safari experience shaped by wilderness, time in the bush, and authentic free-range hunting,  few destinations in Africa still compare to Tanzania.
