    Shot Placement on African Game

Proper shot placement is one of the most important aspects of hunting African game. Each species has its own anatomy, and understanding the location of the vital organs is essential for making a clean and ethical shot.

For plains game such as Gemsbok, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest and Impala, hunters should understand the position of the heart and lungs and how the ideal point of aim changes according to the animal's position and angle. A broadside or slightly quartering-away animal will generally provide the clearest opportunity for an effective shot.

Your Professional Hunter will assess the animal, shooting angle and conditions and advise you when the opportunity is right. Patience is important, and hunters should only take a shot when there is a clear and ethical opportunity.

Preparing before your safari by understanding the anatomy and shot placement of the species you intend to hunt can make an important difference in the field. Our Shot Placement for Hunting Game in Africa resource provides further information on African game anatomy, vital zones and different shooting angles.

    Plan Your Namibian Hunting Safari
