Why go hunting for Giant Crocodiles?

Hunting Crocodiles, one of Africa’s most formidable and ancient Apex predators are a challenging pursuit for hunters. Known for their stealth, strength and reptilian sized brains, Nile Crocodiles are a prized trophy on any African hunting safari. Whether you are hunting Lake Cahora Bassa in Mozambique, or Kariba in Zimbabwe, or Crocodile hunting in the waterways, swamps and rivers of the Caprivi Strip in Namibia, these exceptional safaris are a hunting adventure like no other.

Spending many hours a day in the water with the ability to blend into the environment, this Crocodile behavior poses unique challenges, making tracking and hunting one of the oldest living reptiles difficult.

Crocodile Hunting
Crocodile Hunting

The Crocodile hunting safari starts with an international flight into Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) in Windhoek. From Windhoek, you will take a domestic/regional flight from Hosea Kutako to Katima Mulilo Airport . Regional flights take place at a frequency of three times per week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.  Spending a night or two in Windhoek before or after the safari is suggested. The Hilton Hotel is rifle friendly and there are a variety of popular venues for fine dining and sampling local beer and wines, such as “The Butchers Block”, or ” Joe’s Beer House”.

Windhoek is easy to navigate and transport is ridiculously affordable. Download the Yango App, and make use of Windhoek’s version of Uber”. If you’d rather soak in the country’s diverse scenery, an overland transfer via vehicle rental is also an option. Though it takes longer, this route allows you to truly experience Namibia’s ever-changing landscapes, making the journey just as memorable as the hunt itself. For hunters who have extra time in their schedule to enjoy this option, the landscapes are truly magnificent.

We, the team at Game Hunting Safaris have hunted two Hippo and Cape Buffalo in the Caprivi, plus Elephant in Bushmanland.  Namibia is one of our most preferred game hunting destinations in Africa. The safaris, the people and cuisine combined with the sheer beauty of the Caprivi Strip is well worth the trip to Namibia.

The Dangers of Crocodile Hunting in Namibia

Crocodiles are masters of ambush, striking with lightning speed and unmatched power. Their ability to blend into the water and remain undetected makes them one of the most difficult targets in dangerous game hunting in Namibia. In the Caprivi Strip, these creatures thrive in deep, murky rivers and floodplains, creating an environment where they are top of the food chain.

Tracking a Crocodile requires patience, precision, and expert guidance. Shot placement is absolutely critical, anything less than a perfect brain shot risks losing the animal as it vanishes beneath the water. A misplaced shot can mean hours of searching or, worse, losing the trophy altogether. Remember, be alert. There are thousands of Crocodile in the Caprivi, do not let the hunter become the hunted.

The Reward: A True Testament in Crocodile Hunting

A successful safari in Namibia is not just about the trophy. It is about the challenge, the preparation, and the execution. Crocodile hunting in the Caprivi Strip requires respect for the animal, the environment, and the experience itself. The reward is more than just a trophy skull or hide; it’s the knowledge that you have faced one of Africa’s most formidable apex predators and emerged victorious.

For those looking to push their limits, crocodile hunting in Namibia offers an adventure unlike any other. The Caprivi Strip delivers a truly wild African hunting safari, where every hunt tells a story and every success is hard-earned..

What is “Dipping and Packing” when Trophy Crocodile Hunting

Dip & Pack as it is commonly referred to is the minimum processing requirement that the Crocodile trophy must undergo in order to prepare for export and shipping. All “body parts” of the Crocodile, including bones, skull, teeth should be dry and free of any “undried” pieces of hide. Crocodile hides must be dried to the extent that they look brittle enough to crack when bent and trophies must be packed immediately after treatment.

The “Dip and Pack” Process Includes:

  • Soaking inner cores in boiling water for a minimum period
  • Soaking again in a .1% chlorine bleach
  • Soaking the inner cores again in a 5% Hydrogen peroxide solution
