    Traveling to the Concession

Hunters need to fly into Victoria Falls Airport. The destination is readily accessible through a 1h45 flight from OR Tambo International in South Africa.

Various regional airlines are available, such as Safair, Cemair, Airlink, and South African Airways. Mike and the team will meet you upon arrival, with a short road transfer (about 77 miles) to the hunting grounds.

    The Hunting Grounds

The Matesti East RFC lies within the greater Matetsi ECA hunting region. Known for the quality hunting experiences with conservation playing a major role. The area is characterized by mopane woodlands, open grasslands, and dense vegetation along rivers.

The rich, diverse wildlife includes large and dangerous game, such as Lion, Leopard, Sable, Elephant, and Cape Buffalo.

    Hunting Lodge

Enjoy a true African safari, staying in tented accommodation in the bush. Hunters can experience firsthand the sounds and sights of the bush, with breathtaking sunrises and picturesque sunsets, counting down each day of a dream hunt.

Expect tasty and nutritious cuisine, along with game meat (venison) from recent hunts that may well be incorporated into the menu.

    Elephant hunting in Zimbabwe

Elephant hunting is conducted on foot, with the safari starting at the spot where the Elephant spoor has been spotted. This is usually on a road, or even close to a water hole that they are known to frequent. With there being so many elephants in Zimbabwe, you will have the opportunity to engage in walk-and-stalk scenarios that are up close to the Elephant herd.

    Health, Safety, And Vaccinations

Staying healthy and safe is just as important as good gear when planning your hunting safari. Check out the following tips to consider prior to your Zimbabwean hunting safari:

    • Vaccinations: Check with your doctor for required and recommended shots, such as yellow fever, hepatitis A/B, tetanus, and typhoid
    • Malaria Prevention: Malaria is a risk, particularly in the Zambezi Valley and Hwange. Taking prescribed anti-malarial tablets, wearing long sleeves in the evenings, and using bed nets is standard practice
    • Water Safety: Drink bottled or purified water and avoid ice in off-grid areas
    • First Aid: Pack a personal kit for small injuries, pain relief, and blisters
    • Insurance: Pick travel and medical coverage that includes remote evacuation, since quick access to hospitals in areas such as Matetsi can be challenging

What to Pack for the Safari

    • Lightweight, Neutral Clothing: Pack breathable shirts and pants in khaki, olive, or brown to help stay cool and camouflage yourself
    • Layer Options: Add a jacket or fleece for chilly mornings and evenings, especially in highland or riverine areas
    • Waterproof Outerwear: Bring a compact rain jacket, always a good option for any African hunt, as the weather can be unpredictable at times
    • Sturdy Footwear: Choose comfortable boots with ankle support and waterproofing for moving over rocky, wet, or dense bush terrains
    • Sun & Insect Protection: Include a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, and strong insect repellent
    • Reliable Daypack: Choose a small, durable backpack for optics, ammo, snacks, and water
    • Optics: Pack binoculars with 8x or 10x magnification for spotting game
    • Personal Essentials: Remember toiletries, medications, spare contact lenses and glasses, spare batteries, and charging cables – when you’re hunting in Zimbabwe, there isn’t a convenience store around the corner that you can use.
