Hunting Leopard typically involves setting up baits, often an impala or other small sized antelope, and securing to a variety of trees to attract leopards. These baits need to be high enough to be out of reach of Lions and other predators such as Hyenas. Trail cameras will be in the vicinity of these baits and once a suitable trophy cat is on the bait, a temporary blind will be constructed. The blind will be positioned at a strategic distance and downwind to avoid detection by the Leopards keen senses. The game of “patience” will then begin.
Cape buffalo hunting in Mozambique is done on foot, following the principals of “fair chase” using the spot-and-stalk method. Hunters will track and follow Buffalo in vast savannas, woodlands, and floodplains, following fresh tracks.
Leopards are solitary, territorial, and primarily nocturnal, though they may be active during the day in less disturbed areas. They are opportunistic predators, hunting a variety of prey, from antelope and warthogs to smaller mammals and birds. Leopards are skilled climbers and often drag their kills into trees to avoid scavengers like hyenas. They are highly adaptable and can survive in areas close to human settlements, though they tend to be elusive and avoid direct human contact.
are highly social animals, living in large herds that provide protection from predators like lions. They are mostly diurnal, spending their mornings and evenings grazing while resting in shaded areas during the heat of the day. Despite their generally calm demeanor, they can be highly aggressive when threatened, especially lone bulls or mothers protecting their calves. Known for their strong herd instincts, they will often defend injured or vulnerable members from predators. Dugga boys are sought after b the Hunter,. “Dugga boys” are older, solitary Cape buffalo bulls that have left the herd, often becoming more aggressive and unpredictable. Hunting them in Mozambique is a challenging experience, conducted on foot in remote savannas, woodlands, and floodplains.
