These African Plains Game safaris are very  popular due to gamer hunting in Zimbabwe being affordable, with the country having a history of delivery top quality trophies.  Save Valley is one of the finest concessions to conduct plains game hunting safaris and this is your chance to get some incredibly unique and sought-after trophies into your trophy room.

Giraffe Hunting

GIRAFFE

A giraffe hunt is one of the most exciting hunts in Africa and these animals, with their long necks and legs need little introduction. A Giraffe has excellent eyesight, Giraffe walk with a “gait” and have 7 cervical vertebrae matching us humans. Male Giraffe can be identified by their darker skins and thicker horns, which are used when “necking”, more commonly known as head-butting.

Hunting Giraffe requires perfect shot placement, and their vital organs sit a little forward compared to other plains game antelope. A giraffe has a thick skin and does not throw much blood, making tracking a wounded Giraffe a challenge.

Giraffe hunting is becoming ever more popular, and these incredible animals are currently list by the IUCN as a “threatened” species. Some sub-species are listed as critically endangered. When Giraffe hunting in Zimbabwe, a CITES permit is not required.

Kudu Hunting in Zimbabwe

KUDU

The Kudu, famous for its magnificent spiral horns are normally on the top of every hunter’s list of target species when hunting in Africa. Regular plains game hunters spend years and many safaris trying to improve the size of their first Kudu, which always make impressive trophies. Besides names such as the “Grey Ghost” as they have a tendency just to disappear and vanish, Kudu are often known as “Africa’s Elk.”

Kudu Hunting takes place all year round and does not require any CITES permit.

Bushbuck Hunting

Bushbuck are the smallest of the spiral horn antelope group and are best hunted early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Male Bushbuck are normally solitary antelope and can be found in the thickets, forests and riverbeds.

When Bushbuck hunting, NEVER underestimate a wounded Bushbuck and approach your trophy with caution. A wounded Bushbuck is very aggressive and have a reputation for waiting and then attacking the hunter.

A Cites permit is not required for this hunt.

Eland Hunting in Zimbabwe

When hunting Eland in Africa, one thing you do want to do is “spook” the trophy Eland. These incredible antelope can cover large distances at a quick pace.

Both males and female Eland have horns, but the males are thicker at the base and a mature Bull Eland can easily be identified by the dewlap and a thick tuft, or “kuif” of hair across the face.

Eland hunting may involve long walks tracking and stalking the trophy bull, but every step will be well worth the effort.

The Game Hunting Territory

The Save Valley conservancy is situated in Zimbabwe’s South Eastern Lowveld.

This conservancy is considered by many hunters to be one of the finest free-range hunting areas on the African continent delivering magnificent trophies.

The hunting grounds cover an area of more than 750 000 acres of diverse wildlife habitat, fauna and flora. A paradise for African plains game.

This hunt in Zimbabwe is on a concession filled with rolling granite hills, open grasslands and forests of Teak and Mopane. The Sava River runs through the entire concession and is filled with Hippo and Crocodile.

Seasons and Weather when Hunting in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has no fixed hunting season. Game hunts are mostly conducted during the cooler months which run from late April to September. This period is also known as the “dry period,” as rainfall is less and brush “thinner, thus increasing visibility. The warmer months are just too hot, and the rainfall increases the numbers of insects, ticks and other unpleasant critters.

Chris and team follow the “campfire principles” when hunting, meaning that community projects initiatives such as: enhancement in education, infrastructure, sports and medical all benefit as a direct result of the hunting safari.

It is due to the proceeds and ongoing financial contributions and commitment made by international hunters that will ensure the protection of wildlife populations throughout Africa..
