Juan and his team specialize in dangerous game and plains game hunting safaris across some of South Africa's premier hunting areas. With access to large hunting concessions, including areas within the Greater Balepeye Nature Reserve, they focus on delivering professionally guided hunts built around quality trophies, ethical hunting practices, and exceptional client service.
In addition to Cape buffalo, hunters may pursue species such as elephant, hippo, crocodile, white buffalo, and a wide variety of plains game. The area also offers excellent non-hunting activities, including photographic safaris and visits to the world-famous Kruger National Park, making it well suited to hunters traveling with family or observers.

Hunters arrive via OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa. From Johannesburg, a short domestic flight to either Hoedspruit or Polokwane is typically required, where Juan or a member of his team will meet you and transfer you to the hunting area.
Road transfers are included in the safari package, while charter flights can be arranged on request. Hunters requiring an overnight stay in Johannesburg may wish to consider the African Sky Boutique Hotel, which offers airport transfers and assistance with temporary firearm permits. Hunting Lodge

Accommodation is provided in comfortable thatched lodges situated in the heart of the South African bushveld. Hunters can expect en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioned rooms, Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping, and spacious communal areas including a lapa, boma, bar, and dining area.
The main lodge overlooks the Sand River near Mopane in Limpopo and offers a relaxed setting to unwind after a day in the field. Whether enjoying a meal under the lapa, cooling off in the swimming pool, or sharing hunting stories around the fire, the lodge provides all the comforts expected from a quality South African safari.
In addition to Cape buffalo, hunters may choose to add a variety of South African plains game species to their safari by paying only the applicable trophy fee. Popular additions include Kudu Hunts, Impala Hunts, Zebra Hunts, Wildebeest Hunts, and Sable, allowing hunters to tailor the safari to their individual trophy goals.
Species availability can vary between hunting areas, so hunters are encouraged to contact Juan directly for the latest trophy fee list and current opportunities.
While South Africa has a regulated hunting season, ranch owners in possession of a P3 Exemption certificate may hunt throughout the year. The best time to hunt Cape Buffalo in South Africa, is from April to October being the cooler and drier months.
In the winter months, there is less vegetation which improves visibility and general hunting conditions. In the summer months, temperatures can exceed 104 Fahrenheit which can be really unpleasant.
Hunting Africa's Black Death follows the principles of fair chase and is conducted primarily on foot. A typical hunting day begins shortly after sunrise, searching roads, waterholes, and feeding areas for fresh buffalo spoor. Once suitable tracks are located, the vehicle is left behind and the hunt becomes a traditional tracking exercise guided by experienced professional hunters and local trackers.
The Limpopo bushveld offers a mixture of Mopane woodland, riverine thickets, and open areas where visibility can vary dramatically throughout the day. One moment a buffalo bull may be visible at 150 yards, and the next he can disappear completely into thick cover. Successfully closing the distance requires patience, careful use of the wind, and a disciplined approach to stalking.
Once a mature trophy bull has been identified, hunters will attempt to move into a suitable shooting position. Encounters are often close-range and highly exciting, which is why many hunters regard Cape buffalo as Africa's ultimate dangerous game animal.
Knowing where to place the bullet is every bit as important as selecting the right rifle. While Cape buffalo are large animals, their vital organs sit lower and slightly further forward than many hunters expect. Understanding proper Buffalo Shot Placement before arriving in camp can make the difference between a quick, ethical harvest and a long recovery.
Broadside and frontal presentations are generally preferred, although your professional hunter may occasionally recommend a quartering shot depending on the situation. Regardless of the angle presented, shot placement should always take priority over horn size or excitement in the moment.
Hunters wishing to bring their own rifle to South Africa will require a temporary firearm import permit. The SAPS 520 application form should be completed before travel and presented on arrival together with supporting documentation, including proof of firearm ownership, passport details, and travel itinerary.
For hunters who prefer not to travel with a firearm, rifle rental is available at US$60 per hunting day. Juan and his team can assist with the required documentation and provide guidance on the firearm import process before your arrival.
