The Outfitter on this Rhino Hunt

Juan and his team are a living tribute to the golden era of East African safari, when canvas, courage, and character defined the sport. carries on the ethos of a bygone time with grit, grace, and respect for the land.

South Africa offers a hassle-free hunting experience for the individual hunter or family groups that want to experience a bit of luxury on their safari. The concessions larger than 5000 ha each and group numbers are managed to ensure the very best service at all times. With the focus on big game hunting Juan and his team offer elephant, white rhino, hippo, crocodile and buffalo with all plains game species as add ons. They use the Greater Balepeye Nature Reserve as one of the hunting areas. Out of this destination photo safaris and day trips to the Kruger National Park are also offered.

Each hunt is a slow, deliberate journey, where trackers move like shadows and the crack of a .375 echoes through acacia groves like a memory from 1950s Tanganyika. Clients are welcomed not as tourists but as fellow adventurers, those who revere the old ways, who savor black coffee at dawn and whisky by firelight at dusk.

Here you don’t just hunt game, you chase history!!

When is the best time to go Rhino hunting in South Africa?

While South Africa has a regulated hunting season, ranch owners in possession of a P3 Exemption certificate may hunt throughout the year. The best time to hunt Rhino in South Africa, is from April to October being the cooler and drier months.

In the winter months, there is less vegetation which improves visibility and general hunting conditions. In the summer months, temperatures can exceed 104 Fahrenheit which can be really unpleasant.

About Sable Antelope

  • The Sable Antelope (Hippotragus Niger) or “mbarapi” in Swahili, is considered by many hunters to be one Africa’s most sought-after plains game trophies.
  • A Sable bull is a remarkable sight and should be on your list on any African game hunting safari.
  • Sable herds usually involve cows, calves, and a dominant bull. Young males are chased off from the breeding heard at around three years and will form “Bachelor Groups”.
  • The breeding season of the sable antelope depends on the climate, with births taking place in the rainy season when food and coverage are more available. Females gestate for 9 months and birth a single calf that at birth is sandy-colored.
  • Sable antelope consume leaves of mid-length grasses and herbs, but, when necessary, will chew bones to boost mineral intake.
  • Predators of Sable include lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, and Nile crocodiles. Adult sables will fight aggressively, using their horns to impale their attacker and cause death.
  • A trophy Sable is a bull measuring greater than 42 inches from the base of the horns to the tip.
