Traveling for the Buffalo Hunting Trip

Setting off on a Buffalo hunting adventure to Mozambique’s Niassa region is a journey that “dreams are made of”. Not many African hunts can compare to the experience of hunting Buffalo in such a remarkable destination.

Mozambique is commonly accessed via flights from Oliver Tambo International Airport in South Africa. Depending on your departure and arrival times of international flights into South Africa, it may be required to overnight in Johannesburg before taking a flight to Pemba in Mozambique. Should this be necessary t, we would suggest African Sky Boutique Hotel who are conveniently situated nearby the Oliver Tambo International Airport.  African Sky, also provides transfers to and from the airport and can assist with any rifle import permits before commencement of the hunting safari. For further information, see “Affiliated Services” below.

We would recommend making use of Airlink for “local African flights” from South Africa to Pemba. Flights are on time, the snacks are great and importantly, they serve “adult beverages”. From Pemba, hunters will have the option of either making use of a private air charter, or traveling by road transfer to the hunting concession.

One of the highlights of your stay is the exceptional dining experience. Each meal features the vibrant flavors of African cuisine, prepared with local ingredients and traditional methods, celebrating the region’s rich culinary heritage. Dining under the expansive African sky, with the warmth of a fire and the distant calls of wildlife, adds a touch of magic to your evenings.

Rifle Calibers when Dangerous Game Hunting

The minimum legal caliber for a dangerous game hunt in Mozambique is a .375 shooting a minimum weight of 300 grains. This caliber is prefect when Crocodile or Hippo hunting, as shot placement is critical in order to anchor the animal, else it could be lost in the waterways. For bigger members of Africa’s big five, hunters prefer  calibers like .404 Jeffery, .458 Lott, or even .470 NE /500 NE for greater stopping power.
