    Dangerous Game Hunting in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has long been regarded as one of Africa’s top destinations for big game hunting, offering hunters a traditional safari experience in large free-range hunting areas. From thick bushveld and open teak forests to river systems and open plains, the varied terrain creates challenging and rewarding hunting conditions for both dangerous game and plains game species.

With healthy populations of elephant, leopard, buffalo, and a wide range of plains game, Zimbabwe continues to attract hunters looking for experienced professional hunters, quality trophies, and authentic hunting in wild African country.

    Leopard Hunting Methods

Leopard hunting is primarily conducted over bait and remains one of Africa’s classic dangerous game safaris. Bait sites are established in areas known for mature tom activity, including riverbeds, game trails, and thick bush where leopard naturally move between feeding and bedding areas.

Throughout the safari, professional hunters and trackers monitor bait activity daily, checking spoor, trail camera images, and feeding patterns before selecting the right tom and setting a blind. Success often depends on patience, favorable wind conditions, and remaining calm when a mature leopard finally approaches the bait, often in fading light.

Accurate shot placement is critical on any leopard safari, particularly when hunting free-range cats in thick cover. Hunters preparing for the safari can review this Leopard Shot Placement Guide before arriving in camp.

For hunters interested in specialized hunting leopard in Zimbabwe, the Gwayi and Sikumi concessions bordering Hwange National Park offer excellent leopard habitat and experienced professional hunters guiding the safari.

    Elephant Hunting Methods

Elephant hunting in Zimbabwe is conducted on foot, with the hunt starting at the spot where the elephant spoor has been spotted. This is usually on a road, or even close to a water hole that they frequent. With so many elephants in Zimbabwe, you will have the opportunity to engage in walk-and-stalk scenarios that are up close to the elephant herd. Don't rush this hunt, ensure that your elephant shot placement is 100% accurate.
