A White Rhino hunt is not something most hunters get the opportunity to do. Hosted on a private 20,000-acre concession in KwaZulu-Natal, this safari offers the opportunity to hunt one of Africa's most iconic Big Five animals while experiencing exceptional Rhino hunting in South Africa and pursuing a mature Southern White Rhino trophy.

The White Rhino is an impressive animal by any standard. Despite its size, it relies heavily on its sense of smell and hearing, making a successful stalk far more challenging than many hunters expect.

    Safari Overview

    • 1 x White Rhino Bull (17"–20")
    • 1 x Hunter / 1 x Professional Hunter
    • 6 Hunting Days / 7 Nights
    • Private 20,000-acre KwaZulu-Natal concession
    • Green Rhino dart can be arranged
    • Observer: US$ 270 per night
    • Children under 12: US$ 150 per night
    • Rifle Hire: US$ 80 per day

Don't let the Rhino's size fool you. A successful stalk requires patience, careful planning, and attention to every movement and change in the wind. For those looking for a true dangerous game hunting experience, few animals command the same level of respect as a mature Southern White Rhino.

    Additional Species available to Hunt

A White Rhino hunt rarely has to be limited to a single trophy. With daily rates already covered, additional species can be added to the safari by paying only the applicable trophy fees.

Popular additions include a Kudu hunt, Sable, Roan, Nyala, Waterbuck, Eland, Zebra, Wildebeest, and Giraffe. The concession also offers opportunities for smaller antelope and selected night-hunting species, allowing hunters to tailor the safari to their personal goals and budget.

Traveling to hunt in South Africa

Travel to this safari begins with arrival at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, the main gateway for hunters travelling to experience hunting in South Africa

South Africa remains one of the most accessible hunting destinations for American and international hunters, with regular flights arriving daily from major cities around the world. From Johannesburg, hunters can either make use of the available road transfer to the hunting concession in KwaZulu-Natal or arrange a charter flight directly to the area.

Anyone travelling with their own rifle will need to complete a SAPS 520 temporary firearm import permit before arrival, while rifle hire is available for hunters who prefer not to travel with firearms.

    The Hunting Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal

This White Rhino hunt takes place on a private 20,000-acre concession in KwaZulu-Natal, where rugged terrain and dense bushveld provide excellent habitat for one of Africa's most iconic Big Five animals.

The size of the concession allows hunters to enjoy a true White Rhino hunting experience, with careful stalking, tracking, and shot placement all playing an important role in a successful hunt. Along with Southern White Rhino, the reserve supports a variety of plains game species that can be added to the safari, creating opportunities for a broader South African hunting experience.

    Hunting Lodge

After a day spent tracking Rhino and hunting in the bush, guests return to comfortable lodge accommodation, good food, and a chance to relax before the next day's hunt. The lodges are located close to the concession and provide an ideal base for both hunters and observers.

For non-hunting guests, activities such as photographic game viewing, birdwatching, guided walks, and time around the pool offer a slower pace while still enjoying the African bush experience.

    Hunting Methods & Rifle Calibres

Despite their size, White Rhino are not simply walked up to and shot. Successful hunts require careful planning, patience, and a methodical stalk to get within range while remaining undetected.

As with all dangerous game hunting in South Africa, the minimum legal calibre for Rhino is a .375. Many hunters choose to use larger calibres such as the .416 Rigby, .458 Winchester Magnum, .458 Lott, or .500 Jeffery for additional stopping power. Double rifles chambered in calibres such as .470 Nitro Express and .500 Nitro Express are also popular choices, particularly when hunting at close range.

Hunters wanting to learn more about the anatomy and positioning required for a clean, ethical harvest should review our Rhino shot placement guide before the safari.

    Why Choose This Hunt?

Few hunts carry the same sense of anticipation as a White Rhino hunt, it is not a trophy that finds its way onto many hunting walls. For those fortunate enough to pursue one, the hunt is about far more than inches. It is about the stalk, the planning, the shot, and the opportunity to hunt one of Africa's most iconic animals.

Combined with experienced professional hunters, quality accommodation, and the option to add a variety of plains game species, this safari offers a well-rounded South African hunting experience built around a truly remarkable trophy.
