The plains game hunt may begin with the magnificent Kudu Bull, a true icon of Africa plains game. Known for its impressive spiral horns, hunting the Kudu offers a unique challenge that requires patience and precision. When it comes to shot placement, every detail matters. Hunting a Kudu Bull is a highlight on many African hunting trips.
Impala are well known for their incredible speed and agility, presenting a thrilling challenge. When “spooked”, an Impala can jump more than 10 feet high. Besbuck are distinctive in appearance, making them a captivating target. A Blue Wildebeest, or often referred to as “the poor mans buffalo”, is a robust member of Africa plains game. These powerful animals travel in herds, making the hunt both a strategic challenge and an exhilarating experience.
On a plains game hunt, a Warthog has the ability to create immense excitement on a quiet day. Just when you think “nothing is happening”, a pig will pop out of nowhere and it will be “game on”. A Warthog hunt is not always about the size of the pig, but the “drama” when hunting these incredible animals.
A personal tour guide is available to transfer observers on daily sightseeing trips and tourist activities such as hugging elephants, cuddling lion cubs, horse riding, shopping at local markets. All these activities are within an hour’s drive from the hunting area and observers will be back before sunset to celebrate the daily hunting success with the hunters over a glass of wine, or a cold beer.
South Africa is not regulated with regards to a specific hunting season and Plains Game Hunts can take place throughout the all year. The cooler months, which run from April to October are preferred. In summer, the temperatures are just to high. The drier months see the grasses being shorter in the veld, and the bush veld not as dense, both of which allows hunters to more easily spot their prey.
The months of November through to February are also the rainy season. Rain showers and bad weather can continue for days in the hotter months.
