Accommodation is provided in comfortable chalets at the hunting lodge. Rooms are en-suite and include a small lounge and kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities and a mini fridge. The lodge is surrounded by indigenous trees and open lawns, providing a comfortable base between hunting days. Meals, daily laundry, and housekeeping are included. The hunt takes place near Rust de Winter in Limpopo, approximately 1.5 hours from O.R. Tambo International Airport. The high-fenced ranch covers more than 19,000 acres and consists of a mixture of bushveld, open grassland, indigenous woodland, thornveld and areas of thicker vegetation. Drainage lines and natural water sources add further variation to the terrain. The Rust de Winter area is generally flat to gently undulating, while the wider Waterberg region has more varied terrain. This 8-day African plains game hunt in Limpopo is designed for one hunter pursuing four iconic spiral-horn species: kudu, Cape eland, nyala, and bushbuck. A Spiral Horn hunt brings together four of Africa's most sought-after spiral-horned antelope: kudu, Cape eland, nyala and bushbuck. Each species presents a different hunting challenge, with variations in habitat, behavior, size and hunting approach.
Kudu hunts are known for the combination of tracking, patience and careful shot placement required to take a mature bull. Their large spiral horns make them one of the most recognizable trophies in Africa. The world's largest antelope is targeted during Eland hunts and require a different approach. Cape eland are powerful animals that can cover ground quickly, making patience and accurate shooting important. Nyala hunts are often conducted in thicker bush where visibility can be limited. Bulls are particularly distinctive, with dark coats, white markings and impressive spiral horns. Bushbuck hunts are generally close-cover hunts, requiring hunters to work through dense vegetation and use patience and careful observation to locate a mature ram.
Completing all four species on one safari gives the hunter the opportunity to experience four very different forms of African plains game hunting.
The safari begins with collection at O.R. Tambo International Airport and transfer to the hunting concession near Rust de Winter. The drive to the hunting concession takes approximately 1.5 hours and is quite scenic
Over eight hunting days, the focus is on finding the four species included in the package. Hunting methods will vary according to the animal, habitat and conditions, with tracking, glassing, walking and spot-and-stalk hunting forming part of the experience.
Each species requires a different approach. Open areas may provide opportunities to glass animals from a distance, while thicker bush demands slower movement and closer attention to tracks, fresh sign and animal movement.
The one-on-one hunter-to-PH ratio also allows the hunt to remain focused on your individual trophy goals.
An African hunting trip requires hunters to adapt to the animal, terrain and conditions rather than following one fixed hunting method. Hunters may spend part of the day glassing from a vantage point, tracking fresh spoor or moving slowly through the bush in search of an animal. Once a suitable trophy is located, careful shot placement becomes critical.
The safari includes a suitable hunting rifle and ammunition, allowing you to travel without bringing your own firearm. Hunters who prefer to use their own rifle can do so, provided the required South African firearm import permits are arranged before travel.
