Challenging Sable Hunts
Sable hunts are challenging affairs, with these wary antelopes always on alert. Dominant males and other herd members issue alarm calls when spotting threats. This makes it extremely difficult for a hunter to approach them undetected, and this, combined with their fast reflexes, makes them a challenge to stalk and hunt. They are best targeted through spot-and-stalk or tracking, while ambush techniques near a water hole have also been successful. The Limpopo province is one of the most popular regions in South Africa to target this majestic animal.
The stubborn and cunning Cape buffalo is a challenge to hunt, make no mistake. Bring your A-game on this safari and never let your guard down, as this wall of muscle is renowned for circling back on the hunting party, making the hunter, the hunted. They possess a good sense of smell as well as excellent hearing. These alert senses, combined with their camouflage ability, make these aggressive bovines a challenge to hunt.
Cape buffalo are renowned for their stubborn and unpredictable behavior and can become aggressive without warning, should they feel threatened or if they are wounded. When hunting these cunning beasts, ensure that your shot placement is accurate before taking the shot. The tough and resilient Cape buffalo is extremely unforgiving of poor shot placement and will not hesitate to charge and defend itself, taking out anything or anyone that it sees as a threat.
Added to that, the old saying goes that it takes one bullet to down a Buffalo, and another couple to convince it that it’s dead…A gentle reminder to have the follow-up shots ready!
Hunters are looking for diverse, challenging, and entertaining hunting safaris that test their skills, along with some quality (and at times rare) trophies to add to their collection. South Africa’s Limpopo province ticks all these boxes and more….
