Domestic flights are available to fly from OR Tambo into Limpopo, or a scenic drive to your Limpopo hunting grounds is another option. For this safari, your road transfer will take approximately 2 ½ hours
    • While the prime hunting season in Limpopo is from May to August, hunting can happen throughout the year. It should be noted, however, that hunting during the summer months can be extremely challenging due to the heat, taller vegetation, and accessibility, because of summer rains
    • With its two main hunting areas (the Lowveld and Bushveld), hunters experience varied landscapes and terrain, allowing them to enjoy an authentic African hunting adventure
    • Limpopo is renowned for not only its abundant variety of game, but also the quality of the game hunting trophies harvested, ensuring superior trophies to add to collections at home
    • The province’s wide array of game includes African plains game and dangerous game, allowing hunters the opportunity to target both during one safari
    • Limpopo, as with the rest of South Africa, is known for offering exceptional hunting safaris, with experienced outfitters and professional hunters ensuring memorable safaris, while accommodation and facilities are world-class, culminating in a positive and enjoyable African hunt
    • The ongoing conservation programs and initiatives have assisted in maintaining sustainable wildlife practices, with healthy ecosystems, habitats, and wildlife for generations to come.

Tips when African Plains Game hunting in SA

Plains game hunting can be a challenging affair, with alert antelope and wary Warthogs providing sought-after trophies for hunting enthusiasts. Check out some tips to consider on this hunting adventure:

    • Hunting is available throughout the year in South Africa, but the peak season runs from around May to September. Over this time, the vegetation is shorter, allowing hunters easier visibility, while the drier season sees the animals more likely to gather around waterholes. The cooler weather also keeps many of the bugs and critters at bay.
    • As a hunting destination, the Limpopo province challenges a hunter, offering diverse landscapes, testing terrain, and a wide array of available species
    • A good level of physical fitness is recommended, as  plains game hunts require a good deal of walking and stalking
    • Hunting methods for African plains game hunting in South Africa include the walk-and-stalk method, as well as the spot-and-stalk method
    • A suitable rifle to consider when plains game hunting is a .270 upwards, depending on the size of the trophy
    • Take time to research shot placement on your chosen trophies, to ensure a quick and ethical hunting safari
    • Educate yourself about local regulations and required hunting permits and requirements
    • A reminder that the African sun and heat can be brutal, keep hydrated and be sure to wear sunblock and a hat
