With decades of experience across dangerous game, plains game and specialty hunting, the team provides hunters with the knowledge and support needed for a well-organized African safari.

Traveling to the Hunting Grounds in Limpopo

Hunters should fly into OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where the outfitter’s representative will meet them.

From Johannesburg, an approximately 2½-hour road transfer will take guests to the hunting concession. The price of the transfer is included in the package.

    Sable Hunting in South Africa

Sable are among Africa’s most striking antelope, known for their impressive horns, dark coloration and powerful build. Pursuing one is a highlight for many hunters, and this safari provides the opportunity to hunt a Sable under 44".

Sable hunts require patience and careful trophy assessment, particularly when hunters are looking for a specific horn size or trophy quality. The Professional Hunter will assist with identifying a suitable animal and planning the final approach.

    Nocturnal Bushpig Hunting

Bushpig hunting in South Africa adds a completely different dimension to the safari. These elusive nocturnal animals are hunted over bait, requiring hunters to remain patient and alert as they wait for a suitable animal to arrive.

Sitting quietly in the African bush after dark and waiting for a Bushpig to approach the bait creates an entirely different hunting experience from the daytime plains game stalks. It is an exciting specialty hunt and a memorable addition to this Limpopo safari.

    Hunting Methods

Plains game hunting in the Waterberg is primarily conducted using spot-and-stalk and walk-and-stalk methods. Early mornings and late afternoons are generally productive periods, when game is active and temperatures are more comfortable.

The Professional Hunter will glass suitable areas before planning the approach. Hunters should be prepared for walking and stalking through varied terrain, with patience and careful observation playing an important role.

Understanding the anatomy of the species being hunted is equally important. Good shot placement for African game helps ensure a clean and ethical harvest, particularly when hunting larger and tougher species.

    South Africa Hunting Season

Hunting is available throughout the year in South Africa, although the cooler winter months are generally preferred for a safari, as in these drier months the vegetation is often lower and game can be easier to locate. Animals may also concentrate around available water, creating better opportunities for observation and stalking.

The warmer summer months can be more demanding, with higher temperatures, thicker vegetation, and seasonal rainfall adding additional challenges.

    Tips for Plains Game Hunts

    • Research the species you will be hunting and understand their behavior, feeding patterns and preferred habitat.
    • Most plains game are more active during the cooler early morning and late afternoon periods, so plan your hunting accordingly.
    • Practice shooting from shooting sticks, as they are commonly used during plains game hunts.
    • Be prepared for walking and stalking. A reasonable level of fitness will make the hunting experience considerably more enjoyable.
    • Patience is essential. Take your time, observe carefully and wait for the right trophy and a responsible shot opportunity.
    • A good pair of binoculars is an important part of any plains game hunter’s equipment.
    • The African sun can be deceptively strong. Wear a hat and sunscreen and stay well hydrated throughout the day.
