Taxidermy is one of the practical decisions hunters need to make after an African safari. Some hunters prefer to have their trophies mounted in Africa, while others choose dip-and-pack and complete the taxidermy at home.
Both routes can work well. The important thing is to understand who will handle the trophies, how they will be prepared for export, and where the final taxidermy will be completed before the hunt begins.

If you decide not to use a local taxidermist and would rather complete the taxidermy at home, the trophies will normally need to be prepared for export using a dip-and-pack process.

This is a regulated process required by governmental regulations to sterilize animal parts before an export permit can be issued. This process includes submerging the capes into a low pH solution, then rinsing and drying them. The skulls and horns are sterilized. The process must be carried out by an appropriately licensed or approved facility in accordance with the veterinary and export requirements that apply at the time.
