    Accommodation

    Tented Accommodation

Lunga Luswishi is home to two camps, starting with the main camp, Kaungashi. This flagship camp is nestled on the high banks of the Lunga River. Because it is situated in one of the prime hunting areas, it provides the perfect base camp for hunting most of the species in the area. Expect all the comforts of home, including comfortable beds, warm showers, 24-hour solar power, Wi-Fi, and daily laundry services. Enjoy simple yet fresh, tasty meals with good South African wines as you settle around the fire pit and take in the uninterrupted views. The second accommodation is the Jipeta fly camp, largely used for hunting Sitatunga in the area. It may also be used when hunting Lion, Leopard, and Sable. While more rustic than the flagship accommodation, it includes essential items needed when exploring and tracking in the remote region of the concession. It still offers tasty meals with South African wines and local beers, as well as daily laundry. Also available are solar refrigeration, solar and battery power supply, and Wi-Fi.

Hunters can either drive for 6-7 hours to camp for US$1,500 return or charter a flight for US$5,500 return. The flying time is 90 minutes.

    Hunting Nile Crocodile

Nile crocodiles are one of the most difficult of Africa’s dangerous game to hunt. This deadly reptile is as bloodthirsty as they come, and with not one ounce of conscience, guilt, or regret, everything that crosses its path is seen as prey, including you…

Some tips to remember when hunting this prehistoric reptile:

    • Not only is the Nile crocodile renowned for their 60-plus razor-sharp teeth, but also for their cold-blooded instincts that will target any prey in sight, including humans. Stay vigilant at all times
    • Nile crocodiles provide hunters with a challenging, dangerous game hunting experience, as they are not only extremely intelligent but also cunning and quite elusive.
    • They are mostly nocturnal, staying well-hidden before pouncing on unsuspecting prey.
    • Excellent shot placement is required when crocodile hunting. The first shot is critical, allowing the hunter to anchor the crocodile before it disappears into the deep, murky water
    • DPR (Deep pressure receptors) assist them in feeling the vibrations of approaching prey or danger
    • They are difficult to approach on foot, and to get within striking range without detection can be very challenging
    • Listen to your PH at all times – this goes without saying, but always good to reiterate it!

    Hippo Hunting Methods & Calibers

    • The challenge when on a Hippo hunt is to identify a good trophy when they are literally up to their eyeballs in water! Look out for two bumps next to the nostrils. These bumps are the bottom tusks pushing up against the top jaw and usually indicate a male hippo.
    • Hippos are hunted by the spot-and-stalk method, either by quietly walking along the riverbank or, secondly, targeting the mammal from a traditional canoe, called a mokoro.
    • They can also be intercepted on land, as they enter or exit the water on their way to feed.
    • The hippo has an incredibly thick skull and vertebrae, making it exceptionally difficult to kill.
    • When hunting hippo, the minimum requirement is a .375, with a 300-grain bullet.
    • Shot placement on your hippo hunt is critically important, and remember to be ready with the follow-up shot.
    • A reminder that when attempting to retrieve your hippo trophy, keep a close eye out for Crocodiles who share the same waterways and habitat
