Approaching a Cape Buffalo requires skill and caution and shot placement will be crucial; as a precise shot ensures a swift and humane kill.
If not, be prepared, as tracking a wounded Cape Buffalo is dangerous work. They say it takes one perfectly placed bullet to kill a Cape Buffalo, and another 5 to 8 to convince the Buffalo that he is fact dead. On a Cape Buffalo hunt, there is no such thing as “too much gun.”
Included in this combination hunt is an impressive list of plains game hunting species, both trophy Sable (The Prince of Africa) and Roan antelope.Roan are known for their striking appearance and elusive nature, making them a prized trophy. Sable, with their elegant horns and sleek coats are one of Africa’s most beautiful antelopes, also known in Afrikaans as a “Swart Witpens”. Their natural habitat is the open woodlands and savannas, where their dark coats stand out against the landscape.
Cape Eland, the largest of the African antelopes, presents its own unique challenges. These majestic animals are known for their size and agility and are difficult to track through the dense thickets. Once spooked, Eland can cover many miles in just a few minutes.
Participating in a Rhino darting operation is a privilege and no less dangerous than a traditional Rhino hunt. Rhino darting involves tracking and temporarily immobilizing a Rhino for veterinary care, tagging and DNA “swabbing”. This experience highlights the importance of conservation in African hunting.
Rhinos have an acute sense of hearing helping them to compensate for their poor eyesight. Taking into account the wind direction, along with the ability to stalk quietly is going to be paramount to your success. Shots will be fired at less than thirty yards. This is dangerous game hunting at its finest. Hunters will be able to practice using the dart gun before the actual Rhino hunt.
While South Africa has a regulated hunting season, ranch owners in possession of a P3 Exemption certificate may hunt throughout the year. The best time to hunt in South Africa, is from April to October being the cooler and drier months.
In the winter months, there is less vegetation which improves visibility and general hunting conditions. In the summer months, temperatures can exceed 104 Fahrenheit which can be really unpleasant.
