    Dangerous Game Hunt in Mozambique

For many international hunters, harvesting a Lion in Africa is almost seen as a rite of passage for dangerous game hunters wanting to showcase their skills and ability in taking down the King of the Beasts. Mozambique’s untamed Niassa Province in northern Mozambique is the backdrop for this hunt, and the region is dominated by vast areas of wild terrain with little fencing, offering hunters the opportunity to experience authentic free-range hunts. Hunts are conducted on foot with skilled trackers, allowing hunters the rush of coming face-to-face with this dangerous, aggressive, and cunning African cat.

    This Safari Includes:

On this safari, an additional 5 x Plains Game species hunt be hunted. If Lion not successfully hunted, the trophy fee will be refunded. Pre-baiting is an additional fee.

    Additional Species available for Hunting

Niassa is also renowned for its African plains game offerings, including popular species such as the Niassa Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu, Impala, Zebra, Defassa Waterbuck, Common Reedbuck and many more! Check out the list of additional species and trophy prices on the drop-down list.

    The Outfitter hosting the Hunt

Enjoy the expertise of this family-run business, with brothers Dean and Hano now at the helm.

This outfitter handles hunting safaris in both South Africa and Mozambique, offering clients a variety of quality trophies and exceptional hunting experiences to enjoy. Both African plains game and dangerous game hunting species are available to hunt at various concessions in South Africa and Mozambique.

    Traveling to the Concession

Hunters must fly into Pemba International Airport in Mozambique. From there, there are a couple of options to reach camp:

    • Charter a flight on a Cessna 206 from Pemba International Airport to camp (US$ 4,900 return, which can be split between hunters). The flying time to camp is roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes
    • Take a domestic flight from Pemba to Lichinga, after which a 6-hour road trip will see you arrive at the hunting grounds. The cost of this is US$ 1,400 per vehicle

Lion Hunting Methods & Rifle Calibers

    • Lion hunts generally take on the baiting method, but on occasion traditional walk-and-stalks may apply. Trackers will look for tracks (spoor), or signs that the Lion has been through the area, or spotting of the actual Lion itself, or members of the pride.
    • From there onwards, the hunting party will proceed on foot, carefully using the terrain to their advantage as they slowly stalk this dangerous African cat until they are within striking range.
    • Accurate shot placement is vital in securing your trophy, learn more about it here
    • The legal requirement for Lion hunting in Africa is a .375 caliber. A  416 Rigby or a double rifle like a 470NE or 500NE are good choices when Lion hunting, although many hunters prefer a .458 or a .458 Lott
    • Soft expanding tips work well when hunting this apex predator
