Often referred to as the “poor man’s Buffalo,” the Wildebeest is an exceptionally tough African plains game species. When wounded, it doesn’t just give up but continues to fight and run with incredible endurance and strength. It is known to run long distances after being wounded, so ensure accurate shot placement to avoid tracking this resilient animal.

The hunting lodge in Messina provides luxurious home-away-from-home accommodation for hunters, offering an array of creature comforts and numerous amenities, including a swimming pool, various lounges, and a fire pit to relax around. From exquisite views to mouthwatering meals, this lodge has it all!
The lodge boasts 6 air-conditioned chalets, all equipped with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms. For those wanting to keep in touch with family and loved ones back home, WiFi and cell phone reception are available.
The resident chef provides mouthwatering menu options, and don’t be surprised to see some game meat (venison) from previous hunts incorporated into the menu!
For those hunters bringing their firearms into South Africa, a SAPS 520 Import Form needs to be completed.
Wildebeest hunting should not be conducted with any caliber less than .270. Flat shooting .300 magnums loaded with 200 grains to 220 grains are the best option. A .308 with a bullet weighing not less than 165 grains can be used, but shot placement is critical. Wildebeest are exceptionally tough and are known for their ability to “eat lead.” The hunter need not be afraid to use something even bigger, such as a .338, .375, or a .416 Rigby.
