    The Hunting Lodge

Offering beautiful views of the African bush, the hunting lodge is situated near Messina in the Limpopo province. Offering the comforts of home and several amenities to keep hunters entertained, the lodge has 6 free-standing air-conditioned chalets. Each chalet is fully equipped with comfortable beds and warm showers in en-suite bathrooms, making it the perfect end to a day’s hunting in Africa.

From drinks on the deck to relaxing in the pool, the lodge provides hunters with a welcome respite after their hunting adventures in Africa’s bushveld. For those wanting to keep in touch with family and loved ones back home, WiFi and cell phone reception are available. The lodge also offers firepits, chill areas, and a swimming pool to enjoy after a day out hunting.

Expect a wide variety of delectable meals, all freshly prepared by the resident chef. Meals may include some venison (game meat) from previous hunts, and a braai (BBQ) is sure to be included during the safari.

Game Hunting Methods & Rifle Calibers

For those hunters bringing their firearms into South Africa, a SAPS 520 Import Form needs to be completed.

The best caliber to hunt this large African plains game trophy is the rifle you know best and are most comfortable with. Any caliber, from a well-placed .243 bullet to a .375 or .458 Lott, will get the job done. Choose the rifle you know best, where you are confident that accurate shot placement is a given. You don’t want to spend your days tracking a wounded Kudu or other trophy!

Why go hunting in South Africa?

    • South Africa is easily accessible from anywhere worldwide, with daily international flights landing at one of the three international airports.
    • South Africa has nine provinces, and each province offers some form of hunting. While some provinces, such as the Limpopo province, offer more variety, it is possible to hunt in each province.
    • Hunting takes place throughout the year in South Africa, although the peak season is the cooler months from around May to August.
    • South African hunts are seen as value for money when compared with other African destinations.
    • South African outfitters are seen as some of the best worldwide, with South African hospitality being legendary.
    • The area is renowned for its wide array of both African plains game and dangerous game hunting options.
    • It is the only destination worldwide, apart from Namibia, where all members of Africa’s Big 5 can be hunted (With this being said, no Leopard permits have been issued in quite some time).
    • South Africa, also referred to as the rainbow nation, offers great family getaways and holidays, allowing hunters to easily travel with family and other non-hunting parties.

Popular Tourist Activities while in South Africa

From the bush to the beach and almost everything in between, South African tourist activities are varied and have something for everyone:

    • Northern Cape: The Northern Cape’s varied attractions take full advantage of the province’s wide-open land and expanses of nothingness. Once the game hunting is packed up, head to Sutherland and experience South Africa’s Largest Telescope (SALT). A prime spot for those looking to enjoy the beauty of the stars above that rich safari hunting land. One of the more well-known attractions is the Big Hole found in the region of Kimberley, where one can experience the largest hand-dug mining site in the world.
    • Western Cape: Apart from the incredibly beautiful landscapes, this iconic area offers fun attractions like the Cango Ostrich Farm, where visitors receive a message from the birds themselves, as well as the Cango Caves, the largest cave system in South Africa.
    • Eastern Cape: The EC region offers attractions ranging from those exploring the province’s rich history and natural beauty, to those seeking adrenaline. If you find yourself and your hunting adventure not too far from the main city of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), it’s not too long a drive before you reach the seaside mecca that is Jeffrey’s Bay, a great place to wash off the dust.
    • KwaZulu-Natal: KZN’s famous Umgeni River area is home to the Valley of 1000 Hills, an attraction that takes full advantage of some of the province’s lushest land. The area brings boating, fishing, and even plane tours to the public, but the best way to experience this area is by the 1000 Hills Choo Choo, a historic steam–train–powered tourist experience. For those looking to take full advantage of South Africa’s warm climate, visit the Golden Mile strip of beachfront coast as well as the iconic uShaka Marine World.
    • Mpumalanga: While the whole Blyde River Canyons is an attraction on its own, specific locations along the way include God’s Window, where, on a clear day, one can see to the Lebombo Mountains bordering Mozambique.
    • Limpopo: A combined experience for birding enthusiasts and water lovers, the Fundudzi River and Thathe Vondo Forest region is well worth a visit.
    • Free State: South Africa’s largest dam, the Gariep, is surrounded by a host of various accommodation facilities, from caravan parks and campsites to luxury resorts and chalet-style options. The area is famous for its array of activities, including traditional favorites like fly fishing, rafting, and horseback trails centered on the dam and its awesome scenery.
    • Gauteng: Something to thrill everyone, especially the youngsters, is Gold Reef City, South Africa’s most famous amusement park.  A truly South African experience is Vilakazi Street in Soweto, the only street worldwide to have raised two Nobel Prize winners, namely Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
    • North West: One of the best ways to experience the North West is the iconic Hartbeespoort Cableway, the longest aerial cable car ride in Africa. This famous cableway showcases the wonders of both the Magaliesberg Mountains and Hartbeespoort Dam. For those looking to enjoy a little luxury, the place to go is South Africa’s famous Sun City resort.
